Princess Kate Middleton<\/strong><\/a> is reportedly taking her return to royal duties day by day.<\/p>\n

\u201cKate might be back, but she\u2019s doing it sensibly, and on her own terms,\u201d Ingrid Seward<\/strong>, editor-in-chief of Majesty magazine, told Hello!<\/a> in an interview published Tuesday, June 24, nearly one week after the Princess of Wales\u2019 last-minute absence from the Royal Ascot<\/a>. \u201cHer priorities have changed, and she\u2019s listening to her body, instead of being a people pleaser. She\u2019s absolutely got to be strict with herself and say, \u2018No, I can\u2019t do this.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Seward continued, \u201cMaybe we\u2019ve been lulled into a sense that we\u2019ll be seeing her all the time again, because she looks so amazing. But it must be an effort to look like that when you\u2019re not 100 percent full of energy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Seward added that the Royal Ascot, a racing festival held at Ascot Racecourse in Berkshire, England, is \u201cmore exhausting than it looks. It involves an early start, and there\u2019s a long process of hair and makeup and getting the right outfit.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tPrincess Kate Middleton has spoken out for the first time since her last-minute absence from the Royal Ascot. The Princess of Wales, 43, released a touching statement about Children\u2019s Hospice Week two days after her missed appearance at the annual horse race. \u201cNo parent expects to hear that their child has a serious health condition [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n

\u201cThe royals have lunch at Windsor Castle, then there is a bumpy carriage ride while the whole world is looking at you. It was a very hot day, and she probably simply didn\u2019t feel up to it,\u201d Seward continued. \u201cI\u2019m sure she was disappointed and really wanted to be there at [Prince<\/strong>] William<\/strong>\u2019s side.\u201d<\/p>\n

She concluded, \u201c[Kate] loves racing and so does her mum. But this was a social event \u2013 for fun and pleasure \u2013 rather than an official or charity engagement, so I think it was a wise decision, even though it was probably a difficult one, too.\u201d<\/p>\n

Us Weekly has reached out to Kensington Palace for comment.<\/p>\n

Kate and William, both 43, were set to appear together on day two of the Royal Ascot on June 18. However, it was revealed just before the event that William would instead be riding in a carriage with King Charles III<\/strong>, Queen Camilla<\/strong> and Prince Saud bin Khalid Al-Saud<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Kate\u2019s mother, Carole Middleton<\/strong>, attended the event instead, bringing along daughter-in-law Alizee Thevenet<\/strong>, who is married to Kate\u2019s brother, James Middleton<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Days before the Royal Ascot, Kate joined the royal family at Trooping the Colour, the annual birthday parade held for Charles, 76, in London, on June 14. She was spotted celebrating the event with William and their three kids<\/a>, Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, 7.<\/p>\n

Kate\u2019s absence from the Royal Ascot comes after her battle with an unspecified type of cancer last year. She first announced her diagnosis in March 2024, revealing that she would be stepping back from her public-facing royal duties in order to focus on her treatment.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tPrincess Kate Middleton chose to address her ongoing cancer battle in her own time. Kate\u2019s last official public appearance before taking a break was in December 2023. One month later, Kensington Palace confirmed that Kate wouldn\u2019t be involved in any royal engagements until after April at the earliest due to a planned abdominal surgery. \u201cThe [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n

Kate announced in September 2024 that she had completed chemotherapy. Later, in January, she revealed that her cancer was in remission<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wanted to take the opportunity to say thank you to The Royal Marsden for looking after me so well during the past year,\u201d she wrote via Instagram. \u201cMy heartfelt thanks goes to all those who have quietly walked alongside William and me as we have navigated everything. We couldn\u2019t have asked for more. The care and advice we have received throughout my time as a patient has been exceptional.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kate added, \u201cIt is a relief to now be in remission. And I remain focused on recovery. As anyone who has experienced a cancer diagnosis will know, it takes time to adjust to a new normal. I am, however, looking forward to a fulfilling year ahead. There is much to look forward to.
