President Donald Trump got a little tongue-tied speaking with reporters on Air Force One<\/a>, appearing to suggest his predecessor had left the United States vulnerable to attacks by forces of nature.<\/p>\n

Asked by one journalist about the threat of Iranian retaliation on U.S. soil<\/a> following strikes against three nuclear sites in the Islamic Republic over the weekend, the president was quick to pin the blame on Joe Biden. <\/p>\n

\u201cBiden let a lot of supercells into the United States. He was an incompetent president. He had no idea what he was doing,\u201d Trump said in audio of the exchange obtained by Fox News.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was gross incompetence,\u201d he went on. \u201cAmong everything else, he let a lot of supercells in, many from Iran. But hopefully we\u2019ll take care of them. What Biden did to this country should never be forgotten.\u201d<\/p>\n

There has been mounting concern in recent days over the prospect of Iran activating \u201csleeper cells\u201d of terrorist agents embedded in the U.S. to carry out attacks against American citizens and infrastructure.<\/p>\n

\"U.S.Trump appears to have intended to say Biden left the U.S. vulnerable to terrorist \u201csleeper cells,\u201d rather than \u201csupercells,\u201d which are a type of extreme weather event. Ken Cedeno\/Reuters <\/p>\n

The term \u201csupercell,\u201d meanwhile, refers to a type of thunderstorm that rotates on an axis as the result of powerful updrafts. <\/p>\n

Trump\u2019s comments came as he flew to the Netherlands for a NATO summit at The Hague, where he is expected to discuss mounting global instability with other alliance leaders. <\/p>\n

Another journalist aboard the aircraft pointed out that at a time of increasing conflict, many member states have expressed concern over the president\u2019s historically tepid view of Article Five, pertaining to NATO\u2019s provisions for mutual defense.<\/p>\n

Asked whether he stood by those provisions, Trump responded, \u201cDepends on your definition.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s numerous definitions of Article Five, you know that, right? But I\u2019m committed to being their friends,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019m gonna give you an exact definition when I get there.
