{"id":211758,"date":"2025-06-25T00:34:12","date_gmt":"2025-06-25T00:34:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/211758\/"},"modified":"2025-06-25T00:34:12","modified_gmt":"2025-06-25T00:34:12","slug":"recycling-charge-for-bottles-and-cans-called-farce-and-absolute-tosh","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/211758\/","title":{"rendered":"Recycling charge for bottles and cans called \u2018farce\u2019 and \u2018absolute tosh\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Plans to add a recycling charge to drinks bottles and cans has been labelled \u2018absolute tosh\u2019<\/p>\n<p>The scheme &#8211; which would see the money refunded when delivered at a recycling spot &#8211; is likely to backfire on the Government, a senior councillor has claimed.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"rthmb\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg xmlns=\" http:=\"\" viewbox=\"0 0 5712 2884\" alt=\"The Governments plans to add a deposit to the purchase of cans and bottles\" data-root=\"\/_media\/img\/\" data-path=\"XO6U3W6G9K33Z59CNCHU.jpg\" data-ar=\"1.98\"\/>The Governments plans to add a deposit to the purchase of cans and bottles<\/p>\n<p>Customers would have to pay a small deposit when buying one, which they would get back at a collection point, plans state.<\/p>\n<p>The Government scheme will be introduced in 2027, following similar ones in Germany and Sweden, in a bid to cut down the millions of bottles thrown away each day.<\/p>\n<p>However there was scepticism at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lincsonline.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lincolnshire<\/a> Waste Partnership meeting on Tuesday (June 24) as the plans were discussed.<\/p>\n<p>Coun Richard Wright, leader of the county council\u2019s Conservative group, said: \u201cThese legislation changes are absolute tosh, and the deposit return scheme is a farce.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s so full of holes it\u2019s unbelievable.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s supposed to lead to a cleaner environment and carbon reduction, but anyone can be a collection point meaning everyone will want it for the financial return.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere could be lorries going up and down the country to every shop.
