{"id":211819,"date":"2025-06-25T01:05:19","date_gmt":"2025-06-25T01:05:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/211819\/"},"modified":"2025-06-25T01:05:19","modified_gmt":"2025-06-25T01:05:19","slug":"the-stunning-new-manchester-restaurant-that-claims-to-be-a-city-in-another-city","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/211819\/","title":{"rendered":"The stunning new Manchester restaurant that claims to be &#8216;a city in another city&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8216;For us, many people come for escapism&#8217;<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/0_ZAAP-Thai-restaurant.jpg\" alt=\"Zaap Thai opens its first ever restaurant in Manchester this week\" loading=\"eager\"  \/>Zaap Thai opens its first ever restaurant in Manchester this week(Image: Kenny Brown | Manchester Evening News)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The hustle-and-bustle of Bangkok\u2019s night markets have been brought to life with a new <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/all-about\/manchester-city-centre\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">city centre<\/a> restaurant offering real and traditional Thai flavours.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Described as a \u2018true assault on the senses\u2019, the <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/all-about\/restaurants\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">restaurant<\/a> on Brazennose Street is filled with an abundance of brightly illuminated signs and street art on the walls and ceiling, and even TukTuk\u2019s &#8211; shipped in directly from Bangkok &#8211; representing the red and blue of Manchester\u2019s fierce football rivalry.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Esteemed chef and restaurateur Yupha &#8216;Ban&#8217; Kaewkraikhot opened Sukhothai Chapel Allerton, her first Thai restaurant in the country, in 2002 after moving from Bangkok to the UK and wanting to bring an authentic representation of Thai food to the country. The first Zaap Thai opened in Leeds ten years ago.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The Manchester venue marks the eighth Zaap in the UK now, following successes in the likes of Newcastle and Sheffield, and is situated near the Town Hall and towards <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/all-about\/deansgate\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Deansgate<\/a> &#8211; opening opposite famed Middle Eastern restaurant Maray on Thursday (June 26).<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The lively open kitchen features chefs preparing dishes-to-order, featuring curries, noodles, soups, dim sum, bao buns, and sharing platters. Popular choices include Pad Thai Bo Ran, with rice noodles, and the sharing Tom Yum Mor Fai soup, which comes with chicken or seafood.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/1750813517_272_0_ZAAP-Thai-restaurant.jpg\" alt=\"The Pad Ga Prao, Tom Yum Mor Fai soup and the Pad Thai Bo Ran are amongst some of the most popular dishes on the menu\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>The Pad Ga Prao, Tom Yum Mor Fai soup and the Pad Thai Bo Ran are amongst some of the most popular dishes on the menu(Image: Kenny Brown | Manchester Evening News)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cThere are a lot of dishes on our menu that are quite unique to us here,\u201d Greg Collinghan, Marketing Manager, tells the Manchester Evening News. \u201cWe have a few salads that you aren\u2019t really going to be able to find in many places around Manchester, including a pork belly salad that is based on Ban\u2019s recipe that was created many years ago.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The menu of around 80 dishes also includes the Pad Ga Prao, which features minced pork, stir fried with garlic, chill and basil, with a fried egg on top, and the Kai Jeaw Moo Thai-style omelette.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/1750813517_737_0_ZAAP-Thai-restaurant.jpg\" alt=\"Zaap Thai owner Yupha 'Ban' Kaewkraikhot\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>Zaap Thai owner Yupha &#8216;Ban&#8217; Kaewkraikhot(Image: Kenny Brown | Manchester Evening News)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cTen years ago, there were nowhere near as many Thai restaurants as there are now,\u201d Greg says of how diners\u2019 tastes have changed since Zaap opened. \u201cFor us, many people come for escapism &#8211; it\u2019s a city in another city &#8211; and it\u2019s all about the great food and the great atmosphere.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Alongside its food, there\u2019s boozy bubble teas and specialty cocktails &#8211; including the Tued Tued, which is served in a traditional Thai silver teapot and features a mixture of white and dark rum, Cointreau, mixed fruits, lemon, orange, pineapple and mango juice.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/1750813518_232_0_ZAAP-Thai-restaurant.jpg\" alt=\"There are around 80 dishes on the menu to choose from\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>There are around 80 dishes on the menu to choose from(Image: Kenny Brown | Manchester Evening News)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Speaking about how Zaap has become a success in the cities it has already opened in, Greg says that Manchester was always eyed up as a spot for a future restaurant, which is being led by manager Natchanok Siriwatanacharoen.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">He explains: \u201cThe journey has been steady for us, we definitely don\u2019t want to rush things and we always want to make sure the locations are right for us.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/1750813518_467_0_ZAAP-Thai-restaurant.jpg\" alt=\"Dishes are made from scratch via the open kitchen\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>Dishes are made from scratch via the open kitchen(Image: Kenny Brown | Manchester Evening News)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cEven though we are a chain, we are independent &#8211; we are still owner-operated. And I feel like Manchester has always supported their independent spots.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cThis Manchester location has actually been in the works for two years now.
