<\/p>\n<p>Organisers wanted to create a &#8220;liberated zone of resistance, learning and artistic solidarity with Palestine&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Dozens more blocked the entrance as crowds grew restless outside.<br data-rich-text-line-break=\"true\"\/>Some yelled at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thescottishsun.co.uk\/topic\/cops\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">cops<\/a>, chanting &#8220;pigs aren&#8217;t workers \u2014 get a real <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thescottishsun.co.uk\/topic\/job\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">job<\/a>&#8221; and &#8220;who do you protect, who do you serve?&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>A woman was seen being pulled by the arms by cops to a waiting marked van as a protester with a megaphone chased behind shouting: \u201cShame on you, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thescottishsun.co.uk\/topic\/police-scotland\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Police Scotland<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It is believed the arts centre was targeted because its board refused to back a boycott of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thescottishsun.co.uk\/topic\/israel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Israel<\/a> and have supported streaming service MUBI which has links to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thescottishsun.co.uk\/topic\/defence\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">defence<\/a> technology company from the country.<\/p>\n<p>At least eight police cars and vans were sent to the scene, with around six people wearing orange hi-vis vests with \u201cobserver\u201d on them watching on as a small group printed canvas banners using paint and rollers on the pavement.<\/p>\n<p>Signs with \u201cFree Palestine\u201d, \u201cHypocrites Stink\u201d and \u201cAre you guys not embarrassed\u201d were stuck to the outside of the windows during the demonstration which began around noon yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>Art Workers For Palestine Scotland claimed centre chiefs are &#8220;complicit in genocide&#8221; by refusing to boycott Israel and MUBI in an online statement.<\/p>\n<p>It said: &#8220;CCA will never stop the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thescottishsun.co.uk\/topic\/work\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">work<\/a> of liberation.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They are letting Israel in and shutting Palestine out.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Other anti-Israel slogans and red triangles were daubed over <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thescottishsun.co.uk\/topic\/glasgow\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Glasgow<\/a> Uni\u2019s\u00a0 19th-century Gilbert Scott building after it was attacked the previous night.<\/p>\n<p>Activists are believed to have vandalised the country\u2019s second oldest learning centre over funding for arms firms supplying Israel.<\/p>\n<p>A spokesman said: \u201cThe <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thescottishsun.co.uk\/topic\/university\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">University<\/a> of Glasgow upholds the right to freedom of expression, including the right of staff and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thescottishsun.co.uk\/topic\/students\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">students<\/a> to engage in peaceful demonstrations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHowever, we do not tolerate criminal activities or those which interfere with the rights of others to go about their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thescottishsun.co.uk\/topic\/business\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">business<\/a> in peace.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Police Scotland confirmed it had received a report of vandalism at the uni and lifted one person at the arts centre demo.<\/p>\n<p>A spokesman said: \u201cWe received a report of a disturbance involving a large group on Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOfficers attended and engaged with those present.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe group later dispersed.<\/p>\n<p>Read more on the Scottish Sun<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA 63-year-old woman has been arrested and charged in connection, and is expected to appear at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thescottishsun.co.uk\/topic\/courts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">court<\/a> at a later date.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The CCA has been approached for comment.\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"PRO-Palestine activists stormed an arts hub after vandals defaced Glasgow University\u2019s iconic building with red paint.
