Vanderpump Rules alum<\/a> Tom Sandoval has auditioned for the NBC show America\u2019s Got Talent \u2014 and viewers have a lot to say about his performance.<\/p>\n

Sandoval, 42, became the \u201cmost hated man in America<\/a>\u201d after it emerged he cheated on longtime girlfriend Ariana Madix with her then best friend, Rachel Leviss, during season 10 of the hit Bravo show. Both the cast and fans of Vanderpump Rules rallied around Madix amid the infidelity scandal, dubbed \u201cScandoval,\u201d while Sandoval received intense backlash.<\/a><\/p>\n

Since then, Sandoval has appeared on season three of The Traitors U.S. <\/a>as well as Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test.<\/p>\n

Taking the AGT stage during Tuesday night\u2019s episode of Season 20 auditions, Sandoval said: “This is the chance to show who I am as a musician.” His musical talents had been only been somewhat showcased on Vanderpump Rules as viewers watched him turn his focus to his band after the scandal.<\/p>\n

After introducing himself and his band, Tom Sandoval and the Most Extras, the group performed a cover of \u201cTake On Me\u201d by A-ha for the judges: Simon Cowell, Howie Mandel, Sof\u00eda Vergara, and Mel B. <\/a><\/p>\n

At the end of the performance, the audience immediately leapt to its feet along with some of the judges.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou made me smile, you gave me happy vibes,\u201d Spice Girl Mel B said, while Modern Family star Vergara agreed: \u201cTom, you look amazing up there. I thought you guys brought us joy tonight.\u201d Former Deal or No Deal host Mandel also echoed that sentiment, saying: \u201cFor me, it was great.\u201d<\/p>\n

But Cowell, who for years was the head judge on American Idol, had a different opinion.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe vocals weren\u2019t great, Tom, I\u2019m going to be honest with you,\u201d Cowell said as the audience booed. But Cowell \u2014 who earlier in the episode admitted to knowing Sandoval\u2019s former boss, Bravo star and former Real Housewife Lisa Vanderpump \u2014 then acknowledged that Sandoval\u2019s reason for auditioning for AGT might be different from that of other contestants.<\/p>\n

Ultimately, the judges all agreed to send Sandoval and his band through to the next round. But reviews for the band\u2019s audition were also mixed from the at-home audience, many of whom were left fuming by Sandoval\u2019s appearance.<\/p>\n

\u201cOh Tom Sandoval we didn\u2019t forget dummy,\u201d one viewer said, referring to the scandal, while another wrote: \u201cNope! Still don’t like Tom Sandoval.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNo No No! They are putting Tom Sandoval through on America\u2019s Got Talent! It\u2019s a sad day for all of us – we will never get rid of him!\u201d someone else said while another wrote: \u201cTom Sandoval was terrible on #AGT. Turned it off and not watching anymore. This show is a joke.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is an odd prop-up job by the show. What are they gaining from trying to rehab Tom Sandoval’s image for him? Sounds like he is kind of a top notch scumbag. I’m not a pearl clutcher but this seems like an unnecessary hill for the show to be on right now,\u201d another said.<\/p>\n

Someone else agreed, writing: \u201cI don\u2019t care who the hell Tom Sandoval is, his act on #AGT wasn\u2019t good. He has the \u2018looks,\u2019 but his voice isn\u2019t great & the act wasn\u2019t good. Who agrees? Clearly he\u2019s a SOME1 since they\u2019re making a big deal about him & want everyone to like the act\u2026 but pass.\u201d<\/p>\n

But others enjoyed it with one saying: \u201cThat was an incredible performance by tom sandoval, And the most extras.\u201d<\/p>\n

A preview clip of the group\u2019s audition \u2014 sans the judge\u2019s critiques \u2014 was posted on social media days in advance, adding to the anticipation of Tuesday night\u2019s episode. Prior to the full episode airing, Sandoval posted photos<\/a> from the filming of the show on his social media accounts.<\/p>\n

\u201cTONIGHTS THE NIGHT! @agt at 8PM ET\/PT on @nbc@peacock !!! @agtauditions I feel so honored to be able to bring my band into to such a cool and different experience,\u201d Sandoval wrote on X. \u201cI’m also thankful for the ones who came to support me and of course, all of my fans supporting us! Love y’all!!\u201d<\/p>\n

Sandoval\u2019s AGT audition wasn\u2019t his first run-in with one of the show\u2019s judges.<\/p>\n

In April 2023, weeks after news of the scandal broke, Sandoval sat down with Mandel on his podcast, Howie Mandel Does Stuff, for his first big interview. But Mandel, who admitted he hadn\u2019t watched Vanderpump Rules prior to the chat, caught heat from fans over his apparent lack of preparation for Sandoval\u2019s first tell-all interview.<\/p>\n

Fans were furious that Mandel wasn\u2019t harder on Sandoval, asking the most pressing questions about the affair. Even Bravo executive Andy Cohen weighed in at the time, giving Mandel the \u201cJackhole of the Day\u201d moniker on his late night talk show, Watch What Happens Live.<\/p>\n
