Rory McIlroy has admitted he’s ‘excited’ to return to the UK with wife Erica Stoll and their four-year-old daughter Poppy as The Open creeps closer.<\/p>\n

The golf star recently tied for sixth at the Travelers Championship in Connecticut, with the 36-year-old battling to achieve the levels of consistency that made him a Masters champion just two months ago.<\/p>\n

Ever since that remarkable win at Augusta, McIlroy has struggled.<\/p>\n

He was a shadow of his usual self at both the PGA Championship and US Open, with many figures associated with the sport left concerned.<\/p>\n

McIlroy and Erica are set to live in the UK again after so many years in the United States, with the pair primed to move into a luxury mansion in Wentworth, Surrey.<\/p>\n

And that’s something the golfer has admitted he’s ‘excited’ for, while he’s also looking forward to recharging the batteries as next month’s The Open looms.<\/p>\n

“I think more so than anything else it’ll just be good for me mentally to take a little bit of a break and get back to my neck of the woods, get back to the UK for a little bit,” he admitted.<\/p>\n

“I’m excited for that and I’ve alluded to the fact I probably haven’t taken enough time off or time to reflect after what happened in April.<\/p>\n

“So I’m excited to do a little bit of that over these next two weeks.”<\/p>\n

The stats paint a bleak picture for McIlroy since he became the first European golfer in history to achieve the career Grand Slam.<\/p>\n

He has failed to finish inside the top five in any of the six tournaments since Augusta.<\/p>\n

McIlroy also recently suggested that he felt it was tough juggling his golf commitments with family life, with the Northern Irishman saying he felt he lives ‘two different lives’.<\/p>\n

“I feel like I live two different lives,” he said.<\/p>\n

“I’m a dad and a husband when I’m away from here, and then I’m who I am when I’m here. It’s always nice to get away and feel a bit of normality.”<\/p>\n

McIlroy and wife Erica first met in 2012.<\/p>\n

The golf star was playing at the Ryder Cup at the time and, when he was late for his tee time, Erica actually helped him out.<\/p>\n

The pair married in April 2017 at Ashford Castle, with daughter Poppy arriving three years later.<\/p>\n

In 2014, it looked as though the couple were heading for divorce – with the news sending shockwaves around the golfing community.<\/p>\n

They later performed a U-turn, however, with the couple reconciling and deciding to give things another go.<\/p>\n

Erica was by McIlroy’s side as he won the Masters two months ago, with the 37-year-old beaming with pride as her husband wrote his name into the history books.<\/p>\n
