It sees The Whites move quickly to bring in a player widely regarded as one of Serie A\u2019s best defenders in the air.<\/p>\n<p>Having added competition up top in Lukas Nmecha, <a href=\"http:\/\/leedsunited.news\/club\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Leeds<\/a> still have plenty to do. A new goalkeeper, a left-back to replace Junior Firpo, a midfielder, a no.10 and a striker remain priorities for Underwood.<\/p>\n<p>But bringing new players to the club will not be the only work Leeds are doing. Indeed, some of their work will be sorting out the futures of Elland Road\u2019s current squad \u2013 and that includes winger <a href=\"https:\/\/www.leedsunited.news\/tag\/dan-james\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dan James<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/GettyImages-1362356304-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"An exterior view of Elland Road showing the Leeds United crest against the backdrop of the sky\" class=\"wp-image-87589\" \/>Photo by George Wood\/Getty ImagesDan James now close to signing new Leeds United deal<\/p>\n<p>According to Beren Cross on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/6447843\/2025\/06\/24\/dan-james-leeds-contract-update\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">The Athletic<\/a>, Leeds are \u2018close\u2019 to agreeing a new contract for James. The winger is about to enter the final 12 months of his current deal, signing five-year terms back in 2021.<\/p>\n<p>It comes after reports of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.leedsunited.news\/transfers\/angus-kinnear-wants-to-lure-leeds-united-star-to-everton-in-cut-price-deal-its-not-jack-harrison\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Everton showing interest in James<\/a>. Cross reports that James is currently on holiday but Leeds are confident that when he returns and the moment is right, a deal will be signed.<\/p>\n<p><strong>LeedsUnited.News<\/strong> understands that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.leedsunited.news\/news\/dan-james-contract-update-at-leeds-united-he-could-be-willing-to-agree-to-one-condition\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Leeds are offering James a smaller contract<\/a> than the one he agreed in 2021. Illan Meslier is expected to leave with reports of interest from Turkey and notably, Jose Mourinho.
