however, due to the financial issues the club are facing, they’ve now been relegated to Ligue 2.

And, while the club are set to appeal the decision, the prospect of them being relegated opens up the potential for plenty of opportunity for football teams across the world, including Liverpool’s Premier League rivals, Chelsea.

When the Reds initially enquired about a move for Fofana, they were quoted £42million, but if Lyon need to recoup some money quickly, he could end up being sold for far less than that.

Photo by Eurasia Sport Images/Getty ImagesHow Malick Fofana could become Liverpool’s next Xherdan Shaqiri

Although FSG’s purse strings have been quite tight since their takeover, some of the cheaper moves they’ve made have worked out magnificently for Liverpool.

Andy Robertson and Xherdan Shaqiri are arguably some of the best examples of this.

Both players had massive parts to play in Liverpool’s success during their time at the club, with Robertson still putting in a shift up to this day.

And, while Shaqiri may not have been that prolific during his time at Anfield, his versatility and ability to create something out of nothing are just two of the assets that made him a hero to the Liverpool fans.

The Liverpool career of Xherdan Shaqiri in numbers.

If the Reds can seal a deal for Fofana worth around £20-25million and beat the likes of Chelsea to his transfer, it would be yet another no-risk move from Slot’s men and could end up being an important addition.

That is, especially if Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz and Chiesa all choose to pack their bags and exit Anfield this summer.

Liverpool have been known for being rather frugal in the transfer market over the last couple of seasons.…

[8815
748,393,4884,179,42874,16,15,84954
0":"post-213367","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-liverpool","8":"tag-britain","9":"tag-england","10":"tag-great-britain","11":"tag-liverpool","12":"tag-malick-fofana","13":"tag-uk","14":"tag-united-kingdom","15":"tag-xherdan-shaqiri
["GET
