That timing fed a growing sense among the center-left bloc that the EPP \u2014 the biggest group in the European Parliament \u2014 controls not only the Parliament, but also the Commission.<\/p>\n<p>Weber, however, hit back at the left-leaning bloc, suggesting there\u2019s little chance of an immediate d\u00e9tente. He also took wider aim at leftist parties and particularly Socialist Spanish Prime Minister Pedro S\u00e1nchez, criticizing Spain\u2019s effort to opt out of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/nato-defense-spending-deal-win-us-donald-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the new 5 percent of gross domestic product NATO spending target<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne problem with European defense is the Socialist S\u00e1nchez, who is questioning solidarity in European security in order to score points with his own coalition with left-wing extremists and separatists,\u201d Weber said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Weber also said that Europe is running out of time to build an enduring European defense architecture.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have a two-year window of opportunity. After that, presidential elections in France and parliamentary elections in Poland will take place,\u201d he said. \u201cThe year 2027 will be a defining moment for Europe.
