{"id":213924,"date":"2025-06-25T19:24:09","date_gmt":"2025-06-25T19:24:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/213924\/"},"modified":"2025-06-25T19:24:09","modified_gmt":"2025-06-25T19:24:09","slug":"russian-court-convicts-nearly-200-ukrainian-pows-captured-in-kursk-region-of-terrorism-mediazona-meduza","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/213924\/","title":{"rendered":"Russian court convicts nearly 200 Ukrainian POWs captured in Kursk region of terrorism \u2014 Mediazona \u2014 Meduza"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"SimpleBlock-module_p__7aRnT \">Over the past six months, judges with Russia\u2019s 2nd Western District Military Court have handed down sentences to184 soldiers captured during the Ukrainian Armed Forces\u2019 operation in the Kursk region, <a href=\"https:\/\/zona.media\/news\/2025\/06\/25\/vsu-kursk\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">according to<\/a> a tally by Mediazona.<\/p>\n<p class=\"SimpleBlock-module_p__7aRnT \">Journalists from the outlet noted that all of the convictions were issued under the same provision of Russia\u2019s Criminal Code: carrying out a terrorist act by a group of individuals resulting in grave consequences (Article 205, Part 2). Since November 2024, the court has adjudicated 159 such cases, with a total of 267 defendants.<\/p>\n<p class=\"SimpleBlock-module_p__7aRnT \">According to Mediazona, Russia\u2019s Chief Military Prosecutor\u2019s Office has been reporting new convictions in similar cases almost daily.<\/p>\n<p class=\"SimpleBlock-module_p__7aRnT \">Ukrainian forces entered Russia\u2019s Kursk region in August 2024, capturing dozens of settlements. Seven months later, in March 2025, Russian troops launched a counteroffensive that largely retook the border areas.
