Green Day<\/a> frontman Billie Joe Armstrong<\/a> called out a fan last weekend during the band\u2019s performance at Germany\u2019s Hurricane Festival, reportedly threatening to \u201cbeat their ass\u201d if they didn\u2019t stop shooting him with a water gun.<\/p>\n

The incident took place on Sunday and has been gathering momentum on social media this week. Green Day Inc. shared footage of the showdown on TikTok, which you can watch below.<\/p>\n

During the band\u2019s performance of \u201cJesus of Suburbia,\u201d Armstrong can be seen pointing at an audience member and giving them the middle finger while leading the crowd in one of his signature \u201chey-oh\u201d singalongs. He then removes his guitar, steps away from the microphone and scolds the fan directly.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s difficult to decipher the entirety of Armstrong\u2019s brief message, but he clearly mouths the words, \u201cI\u2019ll beat your ass. Do you understand me?\u201d<\/p>\n

The altercation only lasts about 15 seconds, after which Armstrong picks his guitar up and the band continues the song.<\/p>\n

Billie Joe Armstrong Has a History of Fighting\u00a0Audience Members<\/p>\n

The Hurricane Festival incident was a particularly tense moment for fans who remember Armstrong\u2019s history of brawling with audience members. Green Day\u2019s Woodstock \u201994 set famously devolved into an enormous mud fight, with festival-goers\u00a0storming the stage after they finished playing and a security guard accidentally tackling bassist Mike Dirnt<\/a> and knocking out several of his teeth.<\/p>\n

Armstrong took it one step further during a December 1997 performance at the Fillmore in San Francisco. \u201cHey, why don\u2019t you come here, you little mohawk motherfucker?\u201d he told a fan that was evidently causing problems on the floor. \u201cYou wanna come up here and fight? I\u2019ll fight you right now. Come on, get up on the stage.\u201d The frontman then threw his guitar down and dove feet-first into the audience to fight the audience member himself.<\/p>\n

Thankfully, cooler heads prevailed at Hurricane Festival \u2014 but it served as a reminder that at 53 years old, the self-proclaimed \u201cson of rage and love\u201d still has plenty of the former left in him.<\/p>\n
