Director Joseph Kosinski is set to return, and in a recent chat with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gq-magazine.co.uk\/article\/joseph-kosinski-interview-top-gun-3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">GQ<\/a>, he hinted that the next chapter will see Pete \u2018Maverick\u2019 Mitchell grappling with an existential crisis.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think we\u2019ve found a way to do it, not only in the scale of what we\u2019re proposing, but the idea itself of the story we\u2019re telling. We\u2019re thinking much bigger than\u2026 It\u2019s a really existential crisis that Maverick has in this, and it\u2019s much bigger than himself,\u201d Kosinski explained. \u201cIt actually\u2026 I\u2019m trying to describe it without giving anything away. [Laughs.] It\u2019s an existential question that Maverick has to deal with, that would make Maverick feel small, I think, as a movie, compared to what we\u2019re talking about.\u201c<\/p>\n<p>GQ\u2019s Jack King mentioned that Top Gun: Maverick felt like a \u201cbaton-passing film,\u201d but Kosinski said there\u2019s \u201cstill more story to tell\u201d for Maverick. \u201cThere\u2019s one last ride,\u201d he said. \u201cSo we\u2019re working on it now. Ehren Kruger, who wrote F1, is writing the script. Like all things, it takes a while to work things out, and we\u2019ll only do it if we feel like we\u2019ve got a strong enough story.\u201c<\/p>\n<p>        Related<br \/>\n        <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joblo.com\/top-gun-3-joseph-kosinski-teases-script\/\" title=\"\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><br \/>\n            Top Gun 3: Joseph Kosinski teases the \u201cambitious\u201d idea that he couldn\u2019t turn down        <\/a><\/p>\n<p>Tom Cruise is expected to reprise his role as Pete \u2018Maverick\u2019 Mitchell in Top Gun 3, alongside Miles Teller as Bradley \u2018Rooster\u2019 Bradshaw and Glen Powell as Jake \u2018Hangman\u2019 Seresin.<\/p>\n<p>Kosinski\u2019s next film, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joblo.com\/tag\/f1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">F1<\/a>, will hit theaters on <strong>June 27<\/strong>. The film stars Brad Pitt as a former Formula One driver who comes out of retirement to mentor a rookie prodigy. Our own Chris Bumbray loved it, saying it \u201cmight rank as one of the most awe-inspiring works of pure spectacle seen on the big screen in years.\u201d He continued, \u201d While some may thumb their nose at the fact that it\u2019s deliberately telling a familiar story, it can\u2019t be denied that F1 is an absolute rollercoaster ride of a movie, and \u2013 like Sinners \u2013 helps make the case for theatres still being essential to a particular kind of filmmaking.
