{"id":214171,"date":"2025-06-25T21:33:10","date_gmt":"2025-06-25T21:33:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/214171\/"},"modified":"2025-06-25T21:33:10","modified_gmt":"2025-06-25T21:33:10","slug":"f1-to-leave-m3gan-2-0-in-the-dust-opening","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/214171\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;F1&#8217; to Leave &#8216;M3GAN 2.0&#8217; in the Dust Opening"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tAn aging driver and a menacing AI doll go up against each other at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/box-office\/\" id=\"auto-tag_box-office_1\" data-tag=\"box-office\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">box office<\/a> this weekend in what\u2019s a test for two challenged genres \u2014 Formula 1 racing pics and horror titles.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tIf box office pundits are correct, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/apple-original-films\/\" id=\"auto-tag_apple-original-films_1\" data-tag=\"apple-original-films\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Apple Original Films<\/a>\u2018 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-reviews\/f1-the-movie-review-brad-pitt-damson-idris-joseph-kosinski-1236291870\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">critically acclaimed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/f1-the-movie\/\" id=\"auto-tag_f1-the-movie_1\" data-tag=\"f1-the-movie\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">F1: The Movie<\/a> <\/a>will leave Blumhouse and Atomic Monster\u2019s sequel <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/m3gan\/\" id=\"auto-tag_m3gan_1\" data-tag=\"m3gan\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">M3GAN<\/a> 2.0 in the dust with an impressive domestic opening of $40 million to $50 million. Warner Bros., which is distributing and helping Apple to market the big-budget summer tentpole, is being more conservative in suggesting in the high $30 million range.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tOverseas, the action sports drama is forecasted to take in $75 million for a worldwide opening of $115 million or more against a net production budget of at least $200 million before marketing. (Sources tells The Hollywood Reporter the production budget is far higher, but there\u2019s no way of confirming whether that\u2019s the case.) The film has a huge advantage in having a lock on Imax screens for three weeks, in addition to other premium large-format screens, including Dolby Cinema, for part of that time. Presales have been strong, and Apple and Warners have been holding aggressive sneaks to spark word-of-mouth.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tF1, starring <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/brad-pitt-2\/\" id=\"auto-tag_brad-pitt-2_1\" data-tag=\"brad-pitt-2\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Brad Pitt<\/a> and directed by Top Gun: Maverick filmmaker Joseph Kosinski, is a seminal moment for Apple as it tries to jump-start its theatrical ambitions after getting driven off the road with box office misses Killers of the Flower Moon, from Martin Scorsese, and Ridley Scott\u2019s Napoleon.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tTaking on Formula 1 is a bold move \u2014 top Apple exec Eddy Cue is a lifelong fan of the sport and sits on the board of Ferrari NV \u2014 since it has never been the marquee sport in the U.S. that it is overseas. In 2013, the wheels flew off of Ron Howard\u2019s F1 movie Rush, which topped out at $26.9 million domestically and $97 million globally.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tFord v Ferrari, starring Matt Damon and Christian Bale, fared far better in 2019, grossing $117.5 million in North America and $108.7 million overseas for a global haul of $226.3 million. But there\u2019s a major caveat: That film wasn\u2019t a Formula 1 movie, but rather a biographical drama with definite pro-America themes about the real-life U.S. engineer who helped the Ford Motor Co. build a car that could trump Ferrari and win the Le Mans race.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tFormula 1, replete with plenty of fiery crashes, is nevertheless the world\u2019s most prestigious motor racing competition and is increasing its fan base in the U.S. \u2014 thanks in part to hit Netflix docuseries\u00a0Drive to Survive.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tIn Kosinski\u2019s film, Pitt plays an injured former F1 driver who comes out of retirement to team up with a younger driver, played by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/damson-idris\/\" id=\"auto-tag_damson-idris_1\" data-tag=\"damson-idris\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Damson Idris<\/a>. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/javier-bardem\/\" id=\"auto-tag_javier-bardem_1\" data-tag=\"javier-bardem\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Javier Bardem<\/a> stars as the F1 team owner who orchestrates the scheme.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tAcclaimed composer Hans Zimmer wrote the score for the movie after working with Kosinski on Top Gun: Maverick.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tUniversal is forecasting a $20 million-plus opening for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/m3gan-2-0\/\" id=\"auto-tag_m3gan-2-0_1\" data-tag=\"m3gan-2-0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">M3GAN 2.0<\/a>, which would be $10 million less than the first film\u2019s $30.4 million record domestic opening in December 2023 on its way to earning $117.7 million in North America and $226.3 million globally against a minuscule $12 million production budget, not adjusted for inflation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/jason-blum\/\" id=\"auto-tag_jason-blum_1\" data-tag=\"jason-blum\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jason Blum<\/a>\u2018s Blumhouse and James Wan\u2019s Atomic Monster reteamed to make the follow-up for Universal. It launches amid a saturated market for horror fare. Nevertheless, pundits say the sequel is still likely to be a profitable piece of business for all involved, considering the budget was just $15 million.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe events of M3GAN 2.0 is set two years after the AI doll went on a murder spree to protect her young human charge (Violet McGraw) and was subsequently shelved. Her creator (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-features\/will-m3gan-become-trilogy-allison-williams-1236295921\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Allison Williams<\/a>), the aunt of the young girl, is now a high-profile author and advocate for government oversight of AI. But when another AI creature emerges that is even more dangerous, M3GAN is resurrected and mayhem ensues.
