Jane Austen’s<\/a> classic period drama Sense and Sensibility<\/a> is getting a new movie adaptation.<\/p>\n

The 1811 novel tells the story of the Dashwood sisters who seek financial security through marriage after suddenly being made destitute.<\/p>\n

The story was previously adapted into a 1995 film starring Kate Winslet, Emma Thompson, Hugh Grant, and Alan Rickman.<\/p>\n

Screen Daily<\/a> has reported that Georgia Oakley is set to direct a new adaptation of Sense and Sensibility, starring Normal People<\/a>‘s Daisy Edgar-Jones.<\/p>\n

Daisy is set to star as Elinor, the eldest of the Dashwood sisters, while casting for her younger sibling Marianne is yet to be announced.<\/p>\n

The script for the Working Title Films and Focus Features production will be penned by author Diana Reid, who previously wrote Signs of Damage and Love & Virtue, among others.<\/p>\n

Focus Features and Working Title also worked together on the 2005 Austen adaptation of Pride and Prejudice<\/a> and the 2020 adaptation of Emma<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The publication reports that production on Sense and Sensibility will begin next month in the UK.<\/p>\n

Daisy teased the news on her Instagram page<\/a>, sharing a selfie of her reading Jane Austen with the “side eye” emoji as the caption.<\/p>\n

It comes as the Netflix series adaptation of Pride and Prejudice<\/a> is also set to go into production. <\/p>\n

The screenplay is being written by Everything I Know About Love<\/a> author Dolly Alderton, with casting news yet to be announced.<\/p>\n

Pride and Prejudice tells the story of the eldest Bennet sister, Elizabeth, and her budding relationship with a wealthy aristocrat named Fitzwilliam Darcy. <\/p>\n

Netflix<\/a> also previously adapted Austen’s 1817 novel Persuasion<\/a> into a feature film in 2022 starring Dakota Johnson.<\/p>\n
