{"id":216101,"date":"2025-06-26T14:36:17","date_gmt":"2025-06-26T14:36:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/216101\/"},"modified":"2025-06-26T14:36:17","modified_gmt":"2025-06-26T14:36:17","slug":"developers-to-reveal-new-plans-for-broadwalk-shopping-centre","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/216101\/","title":{"rendered":"Developers to reveal new plans for Broadwalk Shopping Centre"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>They have agreed to scale-back their &#8216;Redcatch Quarter&#8217; project<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/1750948575_220_0_TCBR26025RedcatchQuarterBRI.jpg\" alt=\"The new plans for Redcatch Quarter, on the site of the Broadwalk Shopping Centre in Knowle\" loading=\"eager\"  \/>The new plans for Redcatch Quarter, on the site of the Broadwalk Shopping Centre in Knowle(Image: Broadside Holdings)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Developers who want to knock down South Bristol\u2019s biggest shopping centre and build hundreds of new homes in its place are revealing their new, scaled-back detailed plans for the first time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The owners of the Broadwalk Shopping Centre in <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/all-about\/knowle\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Knowle<\/a> are hosting two community drop-in sessions in a couple of weeks to show their revised plans for their \u2018Redcatch Quarter\u2019 redevelopment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Broadside Holdings want to knock the centre down, along with the now-closed multi-storey car park and bingo hall at the back of the centre, and build almost 500 new homes there instead.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Broadside did get planning permission for more than 800 flats on the site, in controversial circumstances back in 2023, but earlier this year <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/news\/bristol-news\/broadwalk-homes-plan-scaled-back-9978377\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"came to an out-of-court settlement with a local residentLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">came to an out-of-court settlement with a local resident<\/a> Laura Chapman to scale back their plans for \u2018Redcatch Quarter\u2019, after she began a judicial review against the way the council made that decision.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Broadside has cut the number of new homes proposed from 850 to 492, and significantly scaled back the plans which would have had three ten-storey tower blocks overlooking Redcatch Park, but now have a development of houses on that part of the large site instead.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The scaled-back plans also mean a large cut to the number and size of new shops and commercial premises on a new pedestrianised street through the Redcatch Quarter development, although space for a new dentists surgery and library are still included.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Laura Chapman took <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/all-about\/bristol-city-council\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Bristol City Council<\/a> to the <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/news\/bristol-news\/judge-says-broadwalk-plan-saga-9305410\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"courts over the way it granted planning permissionLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">courts over the way it granted planning permission<\/a> for the original Redcatch Quarter plan with a crowdfunded legal action as residents with the Knowle Neighbourhood Planning Group and the Broadwalk Redevelopment Community Group clubbed together to challenge the council.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">That prompted the <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/news\/bristol-news\/broadwalk-homes-plan-scaled-back-9978377\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"developers to agree a compromiseLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">developers to agree a compromise<\/a> which has seen the scale of the development reduced in return for Ms Chapman dropping the judicial review challenge.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">She said: \u201cWe\u2019re very pleased to announce that the plans have been fleshed out and will be launched to the public.
