{"id":216607,"date":"2025-06-26T19:01:09","date_gmt":"2025-06-26T19:01:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/216607\/"},"modified":"2025-06-26T19:01:09","modified_gmt":"2025-06-26T19:01:09","slug":"gemini-is-getting-ready-to-replace-google-assistant-on-android","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/216607\/","title":{"rendered":"Gemini is getting ready to replace Google Assistant on Android"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">Android users will soon be able to let Gemini control device features and apps with fewer privacy concerns. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.androidpolice.com\/upcoming-gemini-for-android-change-privacy-settings\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">In an email seen by Android Police<\/a>, Google recently notified Gemini users that it will start rolling out an update on July 7th that allows the AI bot to \u201cuse Phone, Messages, WhatsApp, and Utilities on your phone, whether your Gemini Apps Activity is on or off.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">Disabling the Gemini Apps Activity setting stops conversations with the chatbot from being used to \u201cprovide, improve, develop, and personalize\u201d Google products and AI models. It also currently prevents users from asking Gemini to perform tasks in connected apps, such as setting alarms, calling contacts, sending WhatsApp messages, and controlling media playback settings.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">The vague wording of Google\u2019s message initially raised some confusion around whether the change would give Gemini unrestricted access to private data or system functions. Google later clarified that Gemini\u2019s app connections can still be disabled at any time, and that the update \u201cis good for users.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">\u201cThey can now use Gemini to complete daily tasks on their mobile devices like send messages, initiate phone calls, and set timers while Gemini Apps Activity is turned off,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.androidauthority.com\/gemini-apps-activity-email-july-7-3570651\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Google said in a statement to Android Authority<\/a>. \u201cWith Gemini Apps Activity turned off, their Gemini chats are not being reviewed or used to improve our AI models.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">The incoming change means that people can use Gemini like a personal assistant for their device without contributing to Google\u2019s AI training datasets, just in time for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/news\/629904\/google-assistant-gemini-moving-on\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gemini to actually replace Google Assistant<\/a> on Android devices later this year.
