Bugonia<\/a>, the sci-fi comedy starring Emma Stone<\/a> and Jesse Plemons<\/a>, has unveiled its beguiling first trailer. <\/p>\n

A remake of 2003 South Korean film Save the Green Planet!, Bugonia<\/a> follows a conspiracist beekeeper (Plemons) who kidnaps the CEO of a pharmaceutical company – played by Stone – after becoming convinced that she’s an alien intent on destroying the planet.<\/p>\n

Directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, who previously worked with Stone and Plemons on Kinds of Kindness<\/a>, the trailer begins with Plemons’s character monologuing on the cycle of life involving bees and their queen.<\/p>\n

“It [the queen] is not in control anymore – we are,” he proclaims, with Green Day’s ‘Basket Case’ blaring out as the various shenanigans – including the initial kidnap and seemingly a police chase – play out. <\/p>\n

Co-starring Aidan Delbis, Stavros Halkias and Alicia Silverstone, Bugonia has been adapted by Will Tracy, who previously co-wrote the screenplay for The Menu in addition to creating and developing HBO’s The Regime<\/a>. <\/p>\n

In addition to Kinds of Kindness, Stone and Lanthimos had previously collaborated on The Favourite and Poor Things<\/a>, with the latter seeing the actor win her second Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role. <\/p>\n

While the sci-fi film is still a few months away from release, Stone will soon be seen on the big screen in Eddington<\/a>, the latest effort from writer-director Ari Aster (who also serves as a producer on Bugonia).<\/p>\n

The contemporary Western sees Joaquin Phoenix and Pedro Pascal engage in a standoff ahead of a mayoral election in a small New Mexico town, which is plunged into political and social turmoil following the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n

In addition to Stone, Phoenix and Pascal, Eddington boasts a stacked cast including Austin Butler, Luke Grimes and Michael Ward. The film premiered last month at the 78th Cannes Film Festival, with its wide release set to come in July and August.<\/p>\n

Bugonia <\/strong>is released in UK and US cinemas in October. <\/strong>Eddington <\/strong>is released in the US on 18 July and in the UK on 22 August.<\/strong><\/p>\n
