Prince Harry is reportedly reflecting with regret on his role in the deepening royal rift, with a prominent royal author claiming the Duke of Sussex wishes he had handled things differently.<\/p>\n

The Duke of Sussex is reportedly extending an olive branch to his estranged father, King Charles, and brother, Prince William \u2014 and he\u2019s doing it through one of his most personal projects.<\/p>\n

Prince Harry is planning to invite his royal relatives to the 2027 Invictus Games in Birmingham, in a move insiders believe may be an attempt at reconciliation.<\/p>\n

Formal invitations will be sent closer to the time, but emails to Buckingham Palace are expected this month. The Games are scheduled for July 12\u201317, 2027 \u2014 a date that coincides with Queen Camilla\u2019s 80th birthday, the New York Post<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n

The Sussexes, who relocated to Montecito, California, in 2020, have only returned to the UK a handful of times since stepping back from royal duties.<\/p>\n

One key reason for their absence is security.<\/p>\n

After losing their taxpayer-funded police protection, Prince Harry launched a legal challenge to reinstate it, which he lost earlier this year.<\/p>\n

Following the ruling, Prince Harry said he \u201ccouldn\u2019t see a world\u201d in which he and his wife, Meghan Markle would be able to bring their children \u2014 Prince Archie, 6, and Princess Lilibet, 4 \u2014 to the UK.<\/p>\n

\u201cBy saying he can\u2019t bring them here because of the court ruling, Harry has nailed his colours to the mast,\u201d royal author Duncan Larcombe said.<\/p>\n

Meghan is also reportedly reluctant to return to the UK.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019d have to be deaf, dumb and blind not to realise just how much criticism they\u2019ve had for their betrayals and truth bombs. But more importantly, there are real and genuine threats,\u201d Mr Larcombe said.<\/p>\n

The royal expert claimed threats likely come from \u201clunatics and radical protestors,\u201d noting that the visible security at major royal events is only \u201cthe tip of the iceberg.\u201d<\/p>\n

Without official support, he said, Prince Harry and Meghan are left with a limited private security detail that may not detect more serious risks.<\/p>\n

Amid this ongoing distance, Mr Larcombe said the upcoming Games \u2014 along with recent royal milestones like Trooping the Colour and Father\u2019s Day \u2014 may be prompting Harry to reflect on how fractured the relationships have become.<\/p>\n

\u201cHarry is a sensitive soul and always wore his heart on his sleeve,\u201d Mr Larcombe said.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo whether he\u2019d admit it publicly or not, I\u2019m sure he\u2019s full of regrets and wishes he\u2019d done things differently.\u201d<\/p>\n

The royal biographer added that the duke is likely thinking back to \u201cthe happy relationships he once had with his brother and dad,\u201d and that deep down, \u201che\u2019d love to be able to rebuild those.\u201d<\/p>\n
