{"id":218269,"date":"2025-06-27T09:38:13","date_gmt":"2025-06-27T09:38:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/218269\/"},"modified":"2025-06-27T09:38:13","modified_gmt":"2025-06-27T09:38:13","slug":"st-helens-the-front-runners-as-legendary-nrl-forward-closes-in-on-super-league-switch","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/218269\/","title":{"rendered":"St Helens the front runners as legendary NRL forward closes in on Super League switch"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img width=\"2400\" height=\"1699\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/230721WarriorsRaiders_021-1.jpg\" class=\"attachment- size- wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" decoding=\"async\" fetchpriority=\"high\"  \/>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p><strong>A legendary NRL forward looks almost certain to make the switch to Super League with St Helens the likely landing spot.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>St Helens will be<a href=\"https:\/\/www.seriousaboutrl.com\/st-helens-star-to-leave-at-end-of-2025-season-as-nrl-switch-confirmed-102015\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> losing loose forward Morgan Knowles to the NRL at the end of this year<\/a> with the Cumbrian set to join former Saints boss Kristian Woolf at the Dolphins, however, it looks like the Red Vee have secured Knowles\u2019 replacement.<\/p>\n<p>They\u2019ve<a href=\"https:\/\/www.seriousaboutrl.com\/rugby-league-news-st-helens-linked-man-makes-admission-on-nrl-future-amid-super-league-move-speculation-105121\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> long been linked with Canberra Raiders veteran Josh Papali\u2019i<\/a> and it seems that the 33-year-old will definitely be moving to England, with St Helens the likely destination.<\/p>\n<p>Papali\u2019i is a club legend at Canberra, having debuted for them in 2011 and been a one-club man throughout his career. He currently sits in an elite group of NRL players to have played 300 or more games for the same club, sitting on 320 at the time of writing.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s now been confirmed by club head coach Ricky Stuart that Papali\u2019i is looking to end his career in England, unwilling to play for another NRL team against the Raiders.<\/p>\n<p>St Helens set to land Papali\u2019i on two-year deal<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailytelegraph.com.au\/sport\/nrl\/josh-papalii-spurns-nrl-offers-will-play-in-super-league-rather-than-play-against-canberra\/news-story\/d2c332714679d07e50cb6efa88902c49\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Daily Telegraph<\/a>, Stuart said: \u201cPapa (Papalii) came and spoke to (CEO) Don Furner and I some time ago and told us that he has some interest in England and also other NRL clubs and he simply said, I can\u2019t play against the Raiders and I\u2019ll look to secure a contract in England at some stage,\u2019\u2019 Stuart told The Daily Telegraph.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrom our club\u2019s point of view, we couldn\u2019t be prouder of Josh.
