With June ending, Manchester United have confirmed that one player with an expiring contract has now signed a new deal, days before expiry.<\/strong><\/p>\n

It is looking like a summer of change for Manchester United<\/a>, with plenty of movement expected.<\/p>\n

This summer has already seen United release three senior players<\/a> in Christian Eriksen, Jonny Evans, and Victor Lindelof.<\/p>\n

Of these three, Evans has been appointed in a loan manager role<\/a> which comes after his retirement from football. <\/p>\n

The three first-team players released looked likely to be four during the majority of the season, with Tom Heaton<\/a> also expected to either retire or be released. <\/p>\n

However, it soon emerged that United planned to hand Heaton a contract extension<\/a> and now this has been confirmed by the club.<\/p>\n

Heaton\u2019s extension is just a one-year deal, taking him until 2026, by which stage he will be 40 years of age.<\/p>\n

Locking Heaton down for another year is less for playing reasons, and instead for the leadership and experience he brings to the squad.<\/p>\n

Now, speaking with the official club website<\/a> after the announcement, Director of Football, Jason Wilcox<\/a> has mentioned this in his explanation of the contract signing.<\/p>\n

\u201cTom\u2019s leadership and experience are really important for the group so we\u2019re pleased that he will be part of the squad again next season.<\/p>\n

\u201cTom\u2019s mentality and excellent preparation to ensure that he is always ready to perform when called upon makes him the perfect complement to our goalkeeping group.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hefty praise around Heaton is not exclusive to management, with his teammates also full of respect for Heaton. After being named in England\u2019s Euro 2024 squad, Bruno Fernandes explained regarding Heaton: \u201cGreat leaders are always welcome in any place, congratulations big man.\u201d<\/p>\n

Not only was Wilcox speaking about Heaton\u2019s new contract, but the 39-year-old goalkeeper also spoke out after it was confirmed.<\/p>\n

Heaton explained that he is ready to support his teammates however necessary.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am extremely proud to continue to represent Manchester United. As a group, we are all really excited for the season ahead.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am ready to support the team in every capacity as we prepare to get back to challenging for the biggest honours.\u201d<\/p>\n
