Emmerdale <\/a>fans have been left in shock after Adam Thomas<\/a> posed for a picture on the set of the ITV<\/a> soap, declaring that he\u2019s \u2018back\u2019.<\/p>\n The much-loved star, who played Adam Barton between 2009 and 2018, took to Instagram<\/a> to share a snap taken at the village\u2019s iconic sign. <\/p>\n \u2018I\u2019m BACK!!!!\u2019 he wrote on the social media<\/a> platform, which garnered quite a response from excited fans. <\/p>\n \u2018WHATTTTTTT,\u2019 exclaimed one Instagram user while fellow fan georginanicole wrote: \u2018As a true @emmerdale fan who watches religiously, I am so happy to see this post!!\u2019<\/p>\n Users @mcdevitt.nikki and @chloe_jking urged the news \u2018to be true\u2019, while another viewer asked: \u2018As in actually [back] or just for a press conference type thing? Really really need you back!<\/p>\n \u2018But I also want you to stay in Waterloo Road too.\u2019 <\/p>\n Metro understands that Adam is not currently returning to Emmerdale and was on set for another reason.<\/p>\n The 36-year-old, who currently stars as Donte Charles in BBC One\u2019s Waterloo Road, previously told Metro about his desire to reprise his Emmerdale role <\/a>\u2019one day\u2019 <\/p>\n \u2018\u2018I\u2019d like to go back one day, it\u2019ll always hold a special place in my heart,\u2019 he said last year. <\/p>\n \t\t \u2018I was a kid when I joined so I had some amazing memories there and I\u2019d love to go back one day. I think my mum and my family are still in it and they\u2019ve left the door open for me\u2026 you never know.\u2019<\/p>\n Isabelle Hodgins, who plays Victoria Barton on the ITV soap, was also keen to see Adam back, saying last year: \u2018I would adore it if he did come back.<\/p>\n \u2018 \u2018I enjoyed working with him.
