The late, great Emanuel Steward is one of the finest trainers to have ever graced the sport.<\/p>\n
Known as the \u2018Godfather of Detroit boxing\u2019, Steward was based out of the iconic Kronk gym and trained no less than 41 world champions throughout the course of his career.<\/p>\n
He played a pivotal role in the development and outstanding success of a number of heavyweight legends, including former undisputed champion Lennox Lewis and former unified titlist Wladimir Klitschko.<\/p>\n
Steward also spent time coaching Oscar De La Hoya, Julio Cesar Chavez, \u2018Prince\u2019 Naseem Hamed and Miguel Cotto, all of whom won multiple world titles under the guidance of \u2018Manny\u2019 during their respective careers.<\/p>\n
Steward made no mistake in naming Tommy Hearns<\/a> as the greatest fighter he ever worked with whilst speaking to Boxing 247<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cNot only was Tommy the best fighter I ever worked with, he was also the most exciting. For me, climbing in the ring whenever Tommy fought, it was just so exciting. Tommy was very special.<\/p>\n \u201cHe was probably the closest reflection to my own style of fighting [in the amateurs]. With Tommy, he had so many outstanding qualities it\u2019s hard to list just one \u2013 but he was so dedicated. Tommy worked so hard in the gym. If I told him, \u2018Tommy, today you spar 20 rounds.\u2019 He\u2019d say \u2018Okay.\u2019 That\u2019s just the way he was \u2013 dedicated.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n \u2018The Hitman\u2019 Hearns rose to prominence during the eighties although his career would continue up until 2006.
