Rye Coalition<\/a> have reunited for their first new recordings in two decades\u2014covers of Shellac<\/a> and Drive Like Jehu<\/a> collected on a charity 7″ vinyl single. Titled Paid in Full<\/a>, the single honors the late Steve Albini<\/a> and Rick Froberg<\/a> with covers of Shellac\u2019s \u201cWingwalker<\/a>\u201d and Drive Like Jehu\u2019s \u201cBullet Train to Vegas.\u201d The band recorded the new music with Tom Beaujour<\/a>. Order the single on Bandcamp<\/a> and listen to \u201cWingwalker\u201d below.<\/p>\n

All proceeds from Paid in Full\u2014out July 18 via Ernest Jenning Record Co.<\/a>\u2014go to Letters Charity<\/a>, the nonprofit that Albini founded with his wife, Heather Whinna, to help Chicago families living in poverty. Each copy is \u201cunique, handmade, stamped, numbered, painted on letter pressed covers,\u201d according to the press release. Rye Coalition\u2019s last album, Curses<\/a>, was recorded long before its 2006 release, due to the band\u2019s ill-fated signing to Dreamworks, as documented in The Story of the Hard Luck 5<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Back in April, Herb Wiley, a guitarist in Rye Coalition and the Black Hollies<\/a>, revealed a diagnosis<\/a> of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig\u2019s disease, and launched a GoFundMe page<\/a>.<\/p>\n
