{"id":219457,"date":"2025-06-27T20:06:15","date_gmt":"2025-06-27T20:06:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/219457\/"},"modified":"2025-06-27T20:06:15","modified_gmt":"2025-06-27T20:06:15","slug":"fitness-inclusion-games-to-take-place-in-dublin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/219457\/","title":{"rendered":"Fitness Inclusion Games to take place in Dublin"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ireland&#8217;s first Fitness Inclusion Games, inspired by the popular CrossFit and Hyrox fitness competitions, will take place in Dublin.<\/p>\n<p>The event, organised by the Irish Wheelchair Association (IWA), follows a pilot programme first organised in Drogheda, Co Louth, that has grown into a national movement.<\/p>\n<p>The organisers said the games mark a major milestone in the IWA\u2019s Fitness Inclusion Project and the initiative is transforming lives as well as the perceptions surrounding fitness and disability.<\/p>\n<p>Over 100 athletes from across the country will take part in the inclusive team competitions at Sport Ireland\u2019s National Indoor Arena in Dublin today.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/0022ca84-614.jpg\"\/><br \/>\nDeclan Hamilton of the IWA encouraging IWA member Sean Carroll in the gym<\/p>\n<p>The competitions have been adapted for people with disabilities.<\/p>\n<p>The IWA said the games will bring people with disabilities together in a &#8220;celebration of strength, community and inclusion&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>The project was initiated following a 100km fundraising challenge which was launched by IWA Eastern Region Area Manager, Declan Hamilton in 2022.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Hamilton, a fitness enthusiast, said the response from IWA members during that event laid the foundation for the pilot programme in Drogheda.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/0022ca86-614.jpg\"\/><br \/>\nNaoimi Mehari works out ahead of the competition<\/p>\n<p>He said: &#8220;Many of the young adults who came to support me had never been inside a gym before. They absolutely loved it. That\u2019s when I knew we had something special&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Hamilton said he then approached a local CrossFit gym in Drogheda, which &#8220;embraced the opportunity to learn and adapt workouts for people with disabilities and the Fitness Inclusion Project was born&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>From just eight participants in the original pilot, the programme now includes members of all ages from locations such as Dublin, Galway, Longford and the greater north east area.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/0022ca85-614.jpg\"\/><br \/>\nConor Dillon is one of the many people taking part in the programme<\/p>\n<p>Mr Hamilton said the physical and mental health benefits that the participants get from the programme is &#8220;profound&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>He said: &#8220;This isn\u2019t about trends or quick fixes.
