There\u2019s been few more popular victories on the PGA Tour in recent years than Rickie Fowler\u2019s at the Rocket Classic in 2023.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Fowler looked set to be the best golfer of his generation a decade ago when he dominated the game.<\/p>\n

He claimed five big wins between May 2015 and February 2017 and finished no worse than T5 in each of the four majors in 2014.<\/p>\n

His exciting style and bold fashion choices made him a firm fan favourite but after winning the 2019 Phoenix Open, his career took a nose-dive.<\/p>\n

Fowler struggled to make cuts at many tournaments, didn\u2019t really factor at the majors and was winless for years.<\/p>\n

His slump in form was startling and surprised everyone in the game who had watched him perform to such a high level, so consistently.<\/p>\n

The start of 2023 suggested he had turned a corner and rediscovered something.<\/p>\n

A string of decent results showed signs of life but they were extinguished with a disappointing missed cut at the PGA Championship.<\/p>\n

Then he arrived at the US Open at LA Country Club and the world took notice of Fowler once more.<\/p>\n

He fired an incredible opening round 62 to prove his hard work had paid off and he could still mix it at the highest level.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, a five-over 75 in the final round put paid to his chances but he had laid down the groundwork needed to return to the winner\u2019s circle soon.<\/p>\n

And that victory came just two weeks later.<\/p>\n

The Rocket Classic at Detroit Golf Club is a popular event in a boisterous city and proved the perfect stage for Fowler to turn his fortunes around.<\/p>\n

He went low over the first three days but a quieter Sunday let Adam Hadwin and Collin Morikawa join him at 24-under-par after 72 holes.<\/p>\n

But Fowler would not be denied and sunk a birdie putt on the first play-off hole to earn his first win in over four years.<\/p>\n

And he enjoyed it.<\/p>\n

As his putt went down, Fowler stood defiant with his arms folded and chin pointed towards the sky.<\/p>\n

His ecstatic caddie Ricky Romano quickly brought an end to the now-iconic pose as the two celebrated wildly on the 18th green.<\/p>\n

After his career-comeback win, Fowler was in reflective mood with a new-found perspective on golf following his years of struggle.<\/p>\n

He said: \u201cIt\u2019s hard to really put it all into words.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cObviously a lot of good stuff this year and been playing some really good golf, so I knew it was just a matter of time with how I\u2019ve been playing.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve had a couple tough weekends where I had a chance.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWinning is great but there is a lot more to life than that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fowler is back in Detroit this week as the Rocket Classic takes place again, live on talkSPORT 2.<\/p>\n
