{"id":219821,"date":"2025-06-27T23:18:09","date_gmt":"2025-06-27T23:18:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/219821\/"},"modified":"2025-06-27T23:18:09","modified_gmt":"2025-06-27T23:18:09","slug":"laurelvale-cricket-club-mourn-passing-of-all-time-great-brian-wylie-armagh-i","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/219821\/","title":{"rendered":"Laurelvale Cricket Club mourn passing of \u2018all-time great\u2019 Brian Wylie \u2013 Armagh I"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img width=\"1111\" height=\"666\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Brian-Wylie-1.jpg\" class=\"attachment- size- wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" decoding=\"async\" fetchpriority=\"high\"  \/>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/armaghi.com\/category\/news\/portadown-news\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Laurelvale<\/a> Cricket Club have mourned the passing of one of their \u201call-time greats\u201d and integral member, Brian Wylie.<\/p>\n<p>Brian \u2013 from Mullavilly \u2013 joined the club back in 1968 and in the 1970s and 1980s was a member of the 1st XI team.<\/p>\n<p>Detailing Brian\u2019s incredible achievements over the years, a representative for the club said: \u201cIn his time he scored 5934 runs, the 5th highest ever tally for the 1st XI.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHis highest score of 113 came against Woodvale in 1984, showing his calibre against one of the best teams in the country at the time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLike all greats,\u201d the club say that Brian\u2019s involvement with cricket didn\u2019t end when his time with the 1st XI team ended in the 1990s.<\/p>\n<p>Instead, he took up a leadership role with the 2nd XI, \u201cguiding young players (including son Alan) at the other end of their cricketing journeys, ensuring the future of the Club.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>They add: \u201cHe wasn\u2019t just there as a spectator though, as another century came against Church of Ireland Young Men\u2019s Society (CIYMS) in 1994.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Regarding Brian as a \u201cLaurelvale legend\u201d, they say he will be greatly missed by all at the club.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to Brian\u2019s talent as a cricketer, one person said: \u201cI had the pleasure of playing cricket with Brian for many years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a player he was one of the best to ever play for the Vale. Anything pitched up, on or around leg stump would be effortlessly despatched to the boundary.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe made playing cricket great fun both on and off the pitch. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. My condolences to the family.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Another added: \u201cVery sad news. A true Laurelvale legend and an even better human being.
