this has been a repeated trend for the last five years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMeasures like these early release measures contribute to this erosion of trust.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>There were almost 6,000 criminals fitted with tags in 2023\/24, with an increase of 14 per cent on the previous year.<\/p>\n<p>Tragic cases involving criminals on home detention curfew include the 2017 murder of Paisley dad Craig McClelland by killer James Wright, who\u2019d sabotaged his tag and dodged cops for six months.<\/p>\n<p>The SNP, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thescottishsun.co.uk\/topic\/scottish-labour\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Labour<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thescottishsun.co.uk\/topic\/scottish-lib-dems\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Liberal Democrats<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thescottishsun.co.uk\/topic\/scottish-green-party\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Greens<\/a> voted for the move this week, but the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thescottishsun.co.uk\/topic\/scottish-conservatives\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Scottish Tories<\/a> opposed it.<\/p>\n<p>Tory shadow justice secretary Liam Kerr said prisoners across Scotland \u201cwill be rubbing their hands with glee at the SNP\u2019s shameful capitulation to criminals\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Victim Support Scotland, headed by chief exec , said its primary concern was \u201cthe safety and wellbeing of people impacted by crime\u201d and said victims must be informed of any early releases so they can \u201cplan for their safety and even risk meeting perpetrators unexpectedly in their community\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Heartbreaking Old Firm march Grieving parents call for knife crime action in Scotland<\/p>\n<p>The spokeswoman added: \u201cWe fear further Emergency Early Release programmes alongside Prisoner Early Release and revised Home Detention Curfew regulations, begging the question of any meaningful prison sentence or rehabilitation for offenders.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A Scottish Government research report this month said offenders released under electronic monitoring &#8211;
