\n\tAs the 007<\/a> franchise has moved away from its more misogynist roots, Matthew Goode<\/a> wanted to go in another direction.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Emmy nominee recently explained why he \u201cdidn\u2019t get\u201d a chance to audition for the coveted role of MI6 agent James Bond<\/a> after sharing his vision for the character with franchise producer Barbara Broccoli<\/a> ahead of the 2006 refresh Casino Royale<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI didn\u2019t audition. I went in and met Barbara,\u201d he recalled on the Happy Sad Confused podcast. \u201cI didn\u2019t get to the audition, but it was quite a funny one because \u2014 and she\u2019s gorgeous and just a lovely, lovely person.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tGoode added, \u201cShe was like, \u2018So what\u2019s your idea for Bond?\u2019 And I was like, \u2018My idea for Bond, we\u2019ve gotta take it back to the books, you know? Really, we absolutely have to make this guy an alcoholic, a drug addict. He hates himself. He hates women. He hates a lot of people. He\u2019s in deep pain. He\u2019s brilliant at killing people.\u2019<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI think by the end of the interview, she was like, \u2018Mhmm. Next.\u2019 Because I wanted to make it really dark\u2026 but what I should have said was, \u2018But also incredibly charming,’\u201d said Goode.<\/p>\n

\n\tAs the actor noted, \u201cUltimately, you know, what they did get was Daniel Craig<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tCraig took over the iconic role in Casino Royale (2006), Quantum of Solace (2008), Skyfall (2012), Spectre (2015) and No Time to Die (2021). Following previous Bond stars Sean Connery, David Niven, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton and Pierce Brosnan, Craig\u2019s successor has not yet been chosen.<\/p>\n

\n\tThis week, Amazon MGM Studios<\/a> officially tapped Denis Villeneuve<\/a> to direct the next installment<\/a> amid the studio\u2019s new 007 partnership with returning producers Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson. Tanya Lapointe will executive produce.<\/p>\n

\n\tAfter announcing that Amy Pascal and David Heyman will produce the next film<\/a> in the franchise, Amazon MGM\u2019s Courtenay Valenti and Sue Kroll said at CinemaCon in April that the pair of \u201cfilmmaking legends\u201d is currently in London working on the film<\/a>.<\/p>\n
