The Belfast boxer lost via split decision in New York to register only the second defeat in his career but, unfortunately, the loss had bigger consequences than simply affecting his record.<\/p>\n
For reasons unknown to McComb, he was removed from the world rankings after such a close fight, and that has made it extremely difficult for him to get opportunities.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen I lost my world title eliminator, I lost my ranking with the WBO,\u201d explained the silky southpaw.<\/p>\n
\u201cI thought that was a bit of an injustice. They should have kept me in the rankings because then I could have still been in the mix for a big fight, but they kicked me out of them even though I had lost a tight and controversial fight.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat meant I wasn\u2019t in good stead with other promoters and lost the opportunity to fight big names, so now it\u2019s almost like a rebuilding process.<\/p>\n
\u201cAny of the big names I offered to fight, they all said \u2018no\u2019, and rightly so on their part because it would be a hard fight for them and with nothing really to gain.\u201d<\/p>\n
Thankfully, that inactivity is set to come to an end as the former Holy Trinity boxer will be fighting in Hull on Saturday night after signing a new three-fight deal with the fast-rising GBM Sports.<\/p>\n
\u201cI have been out of the ring for over a year now,\u201d said McComb.<\/p>\n
\u201cI changed my manager and he got the ball rolling very quickly, and they gave me a three-fight deal with the promotional company. For me, it is all about activity.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s just good to get that security because all of this waiting around and not knowing when I\u2019m going to fight again was getting very frustrating.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis security has given me a whole new lease of life now, I can just focus on boxing again and get back to doing what I do best.\u201d<\/p>\n
Following any bouts of inactivity, there are usually concerns that the fighter in question might suffer from ring rust and not be as sharp as they normally are.<\/p>\n
McComb, however, has no such fears, insisting that he keeps himself in top shape all year round and is ready to make a statement.<\/p>\n
He continued: \u201cI have been training for a year now, still sparring, still keeping my standards high and still competing at a high level.<\/p>\n
\u201cI know fighting and sparring is different, but in my eyes, sparring is harder than fighting a lot of the time, so I\u2019m not worried about ring rust.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m very confident, and I\u2019m just excited to get back in and start making myself relevant in the 140lb weight category.\u201d<\/p>\n
At long last, \u2018The Public Nuisance\u2019 has a clear blueprint to get his career back on track and, if everything goes as planned, the west Belfast native could be set up for a massive 2026.<\/p>\n
McComb continued: \u201cI\u2019m on a three-fight deal, and the plan is to fight this Saturday, then get out again in September with a title of some sort on the line and then hopefully headline my own show in the Ulster Hall or somewhere defending that title.<\/p>\n
\u201cThen I can go into 2026 with a title, decent ranking with one of the governing bodies and get myself back into contention for a world title shot because I fully believe that I can beat anyone at that level.\u201d<\/p>\n
