There were 327 reported cases of this over the last four years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Other types of fraud involved copied or altered badges, and altered clocks on the badges.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">It comes after figures from the British Parking Association (BPA) showed cases of blue badge misuse have skyrocketed by over 1,000% since 2016.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Experts said \u2018borrowing Grandma\u2019s badge\u2019 just to get free, convenient parking was becoming increasingly common.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Anyone caught misusing a blue badge faces a fine of up to \u00a31,000.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Alison Tooze, chief engagement and policy officer at the BPA, said \u201cThe statistics around the level of blue badge misuse and fraud are shocking.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">&#8220;We cannot continue to ignore this issue, especially when the victims are some of the most vulnerable in our society.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">&#8220;Badge holders rely on accessible parking to carry out their day-to-day activities and for many it is a vital part of living an independent life.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">&#8220;Perpetrators of blue badge misuse and fraud deprive genuine badge holders of this right to freedom, whilst costing ordinary taxpayers millions every year.
