{"id":220602,"date":"2025-06-28T06:14:08","date_gmt":"2025-06-28T06:14:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/220602\/"},"modified":"2025-06-28T06:14:08","modified_gmt":"2025-06-28T06:14:08","slug":"son-of-norway-princess-charged-with-rape-and-sexual-assault-dw-06-28-2025","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/220602\/","title":{"rendered":"Son of Norway princess charged with rape and sexual assault \u2013 DW \u2013 06\/28\/2025"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The eldest son of <a class=\"internal-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dw.com\/en\/norway\/t-18943636\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Norway<\/a>&#8216;s crown princess was charged with multiple counts of rape, sexual assault and bodily harm, on Friday, after ten months of investigation.<\/p>\n<p>Marius Borg Hoiby is the 28-year-old son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit and stepson of the heir to the throne \u2014 Crown Prince Haakon. He was arrested several times in 2024 amid allegations of\u00a0rape and preliminary charges of bodily harm.<\/p>\n<p>Police dealing with &#8216;double-digit&#8217; allegations<\/p>\n<p>Hoiby has faced scrutiny since and has been at\u00a0the center of an investigation involving a &#8220;double-digit&#8221; number of victims.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I cannot go into further detail about the number of victims in the case beyond confirming that it is a double-digit number,&#8221; Oslo Police Attorney Andreas Kruszewski said at a news conference.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He added that the charges include one case of rape involving intercourse, two cases of rape without intercourse, four cases of sexual assault and two cases of bodily harm.<\/p>\n<p>The attorney said the evidence had been gathered from sources including text-messages, police searches and witness testimonies.<\/p>\n<p>In an email to The Associated Press, Defense attorney Petar Sekulic said Hoiby was &#8220;taking the accusations very seriously, but doesn&#8217;t acknowledge any wrongdoing in most of the cases \u2014 especially the cases regarding sexual abuse and violence.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>What do we know about Hoiby?<\/p>\n<p>The Crown princess&#8217; eldest son is her child from a different relationship before she was married to Crown Prince Haakon.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img data-format=\"MASTER_LANDSCAPE\" data-id=\"73074246\" data-url=\"https:\/\/static.dw.com\/image\/73074246_${formatId}.jpg\" data-aspect-ratio=\"16\/9\" alt=\"File image of Marius Borg H\u00f8iby, son of Norwegian Crown Princess Mette-Marit\" style=\"padding-bottom: 56.25%; height: 0; max-height: 0;\"\/>Hoiby grew up in the public eye and was once affectionately known as &#8220;Little Marius&#8221;Image: H\u00e5kon Mosvold Larsen\/NTB\/AFP<\/p>\n<p>Hoiby grew up with the privelege of the other royals but does not hold a formal title or have a public role.<\/p>\n<p>After the initial allegations of bodily harm last year, Hoiby admitted to acts of violence directed towards his partner under the influence of alcohol and cocaine.
