Vance\u2019s overnight <a href=\"https:\/\/unherd.com\/2025\/04\/jd-vance-my-message-to-europe\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">interview<\/a> with UnHerd\u00a0will have British officials sighing with relief. Brexit dividends abound\u2026<\/p>\n<p>The Vice-President goes in on Europe\u2019s weaknesses:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re very frustrated \u2014 \u2018we\u2019 meaning me, the President, certainly the entire Trump administration \u2014 that European populations keep on crying out for more sensible economic and migration policies, and the leaders of Europe keep on going through these elections, and keep on offering the European peoples the opposite of what they seem to have voted for\u2026 The reality is \u2014 it\u2019s blunt to say it, but it\u2019s also true \u2014 that Europe\u2019s entire security infrastructure, for my entire life, has been subsidised by the United States of America.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Vance <a href=\"https:\/\/order-order.com\/2025\/04\/09\/eu-member-states-vote-through-retaliatory-tariffs-on-united-states\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">adds<\/a> the UK, France, and Poland are the exceptions that prove the rule on Europe\u2019s poor military self-defence capability. American dissatisfaction with the European project is placed on the EU. The UK on the other hand is close to a deal:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re certainly working very hard with Keir Starmer\u2019s government. The President really loves the United Kingdom. He loved the Queen. He admires and loves the King. It is a very important relationship\u2026 There\u2019s a real cultural affinity. And of course, fundamentally America is an Anglo country. I think there\u2019s a good chance that, yes, we\u2019ll come to a great agreement that\u2019s in the best interest of both countries.\u201c<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>No chance for that if the UK was still part of the EU. Briefings as to the timings of the deal have varied wildly with no results yet. All while Labour puts the UK back <a style=\"color: #d50000;\" href=\"https:\/\/order-order.com\/2025\/04\/15\/starmer-confirms-plan-to-reverse-brexit-as-uk-accepts-eu-rules-under-labour-deal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">under<\/a> the jurisdiction of the ECJ\u2026<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Brexit Dividends Materialise as Vance Signals Economic Deal Inbound mdi-fullscreen J.D.
