Sheffield United considered appointing Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl to replace Chris Wilder but opted against it due to fears of fan backlash.<\/strong><\/p>\n That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider<\/strong> that the Blades were impressed by Rohl\u2019s record in the Championship.<\/p>\n However, Ruben Selles was eventually chosen as the man to lead the Blades forward after he was controversially sacked by Hull City last month.<\/p>\n Brown told Football Insider<\/strong> in April that Rohl is prepared to quit Sheffield Wednesday<\/a> amid growing concerns and a bust-up with under-fire owner Dejphon Chansiri.<\/p>\n Despite the Blades\u2019 snub, the German is still widely expected to leave Hillsborough before the start of the new season, and has also been linked with the Leicester City job.<\/p>\n Brown told Football Insider<\/strong> in May that Rohl is open to taking over at Leicester<\/a> after Ruud van Nistelrooy is sacked following their relegation from the Premier League.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n MORE FOOTBALL INSIDER STORIES<\/p>\n Sheffield United make Danny Rohl U-turn<\/strong><\/p>\n Before Russell Martin\u2019s appointment, Brown told Football Insider<\/strong> that Rohl was interested in the Rangers job<\/a> as he plots his route out of Sheffield Wednesday.<\/p>\n The former scout, who worked closely with elite-level managers including the likes of Sir Alex Ferguson and Ron Atkinson for over a decade at Man United, insisted that Rohl was under consideration for the Sheffield United job before they had second thoughts.<\/p>\n \u201cAfter Chris Wilder was sacked, there was a lot of speculation,\u201d he told Football Insider.<\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cFirst it was Gary O\u2019Neil linked as their top target, before it quickly came out that he would not be going there, whether that was the club or his camp coming out.<\/p>\n \u201cIt was a difficult decision to make, sacking Wilder, because they narrowly missed out on promotion.<\/p>\n \u201cBut they wanted to move quickly to bring in somebody who could give them that bit extra.<\/p>\n \u201cThey need to prove they can do it all again and go a step further than they did this year, which is difficult to do when you\u2019ve had such disappointment.<\/p>\n \u201cEventually they landed on Ruben Selles, and I must admit I don\u2019t know a lot about him but I don\u2019t think he was their first choice.<\/p>\n \u201cI know they were looking at Danny Rohl from Sheffield Wednesday because he might leave there.<\/p>\n \u201cBecause staff are not being paid and everything going on with the owner, I\u2019m told he would be interested in taking an opportunity elsewhere.<\/p>\n \u201cHe\u2019s very highly rated at that level, various people in the game respect him.<\/p>\n \u201cI believe there were some concerns raised about Sheffield United going for the Sheffield Wednesday manager and how that might be received by the fans.<\/p>\n \u201cUltimately, they decided not to go for him, but it\u2019s an interesting one.\u201d<\/p>\n Following the appointment of Selles, the Blades have turned their attentions towards incoming transfers amid links with Millenic Alli.<\/p>\n Football Insider<\/strong> exclusively revealed on 26 June that Sheffield United want to sign Ali<\/a> and have joined Leicester and Middlesbrough in the race for his signature.<\/p>\n Alli, 25, impressed for\u00a0Luton<\/a>\u00a0at the back end of last season, scoring four goals in six starts for a struggling and eventually relegated Hatters team.<\/p>\n The forward joined Luton in the January transfer window after supplying Exeter with 12 goals in the
