{"id":221519,"date":"2025-06-28T14:23:10","date_gmt":"2025-06-28T14:23:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/221519\/"},"modified":"2025-06-28T14:23:10","modified_gmt":"2025-06-28T14:23:10","slug":"retired-chantal-van-den-broek-blaak-receives-warm-send-off-at-dutch-national-championships","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/221519\/","title":{"rendered":"Retired Chantal van den Broek-Blaak receives warm send off at Dutch national championships"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Former world champion <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/riders\/chantal-van-den-broek-blaak\/\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/riders\/chantal-van-den-broek-blaak\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Chantal van den Broek-Blaak<\/a> received a belated send-off at the start of the <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/netherlands-road-championships\/races\/\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/netherlands-road-championships\/races\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dutch national championships<\/a> road race on Saturday morning, after retiring in February.<\/p>\n<p>Van den Broek-Blaak, who rode for <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/road\/teams\/uci-womens-worldtour\/2024\/sd-worx-protime\/\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/road\/teams\/uci-womens-worldtour\/2024\/sd-worx-protime\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SD Worx-Protime<\/a>, <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/news\/former-world-champion-chantal-van-den-broek-blaak-announces-retirement\/\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/news\/former-world-champion-chantal-van-den-broek-blaak-announces-retirement\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">announced in February that she was pregnant with her second child<\/a>, and would not be returning after maternity leave. She previously had her first child in 2023, and made a return to racing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\" aria-hidden=\"true\">She is the outgoing Dutch national champion, after winning the road race last June \u2013 her final victory as a pro \u2013 and the peloton gave her a guard of honour at the start of this year&#8217;s race in Ede, where a new national champion will be crowned.<\/p>\n<p>You may like<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\" aria-hidden=\"true\">&#8220;Outgoing Dutch champion Chantal van den Broek-Blaak got a legendary end to a career for the history books,&#8221; her former team SD Worx-Protime wrote on Instagram.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\" aria-hidden=\"true\">Van den Broek-Blaak herself also posted a <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DLW7Lutsry6\/?hl=en&amp;img_index=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DLW7Lutsry6\/?hl=en&amp;img_index=1\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\">throwback Instagram post<\/a> bidding farewell to her time in the national champion&#8217;s jersey, which she only wore in competition once, in last year&#8217;s <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/giro-d-italia-women\/\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/giro-d-italia-women\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Giro d&#8217;Italia Women<\/a>, which would end up being her final road race.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\" aria-hidden=\"true\">&#8220;I was allowed to wear the red-white-blue 3 times! But I have the most beautiful memories in Arnhem last year with my lovely daughter Noa and my husband Lars at the finish line!&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\" aria-hidden=\"true\">&#8220;With a second child on the way, I couldn&#8217;t show the jersey this season. And on Saturday it&#8217;s officially no longer mine, but the beautiful moments remain!
