{"id":221615,"date":"2025-06-28T15:14:10","date_gmt":"2025-06-28T15:14:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/221615\/"},"modified":"2025-06-28T15:14:10","modified_gmt":"2025-06-28T15:14:10","slug":"kwame-poku-reveals-why-he-snubbed-birmingham-city-for-qpr-thats-what-really-attracted-me","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/221615\/","title":{"rendered":"Kwame Poku reveals why he snubbed Birmingham City for QPR, \u2018that\u2019s what really attracted me\u2026\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Queens Park Rangers will begin to feel a sense of excitement ahead of the new Championship season.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Only days after <a href=\"https:\/\/eflanalysis.com\/news\/julien-stephan-releases-first-statement-after-being-appointed-as-new-qpr-manager-fans-will-be-excited\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">appointing Julien Stephan<\/a> as manager, <a href=\"https:\/\/eflanalysis.com\/transfers\/qpr-chief-provides-five-key-reasons-why-rangers-signed-reading-ace-amadou-mbengue\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">QPR have signed centre-back Amadou Mbengue<\/a> from Reading and <a href=\"https:\/\/eflanalysis.com\/transfers\/winner-named-in-swansea-city-and-qpr-race-to-sign-peterborough-united-winger-kwame-poku\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">unveiled the capture of Kwame Poku<\/a> from Peterborough United. <\/p>\n<p>QPR winning the race to sign the 23-year-old is a real signal of their intent, as <a href=\"https:\/\/eflanalysis.com\/transfers\/birmingham-city-are-in-talks-for-league-one-superstar-but-theres-big-danger-with-rangers-interest\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Birmingham City were interested in Poku<\/a> earlier in the window alongside Scottish giants Rangers. <\/p>\n<p>But after Peterborough\u2019s director of football <a href=\"https:\/\/eflanalysis.com\/news\/birmingham-city-could-be-forced-to-pay-eight-figures-for-transfer-target-if-club-chief-gets-his-way\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Barry Fry slapped a \u00a310 million asking price on Poku<\/a>, the Blues walked away from negotiations and have instead <a href=\"https:\/\/eflanalysis.com\/transfers\/birmingham-city-to-confirm-6m-capture-of-demarai-gray-despite-premier-league-interest\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sought to sign Demarai Gray<\/a> from Al-Ettifaq. <\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, as <a href=\"https:\/\/eflanalysis.com\/transfers\/kwame-poku-has-peterborough-united-worried-as-he-weighs-up-his-next-move-amid-rangers-interest\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Poku could have joined Rangers on a free transfer<\/a>, Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony was desperate for an English club to pay compensation, with QPR announcing the 23-year-old on Saturday. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/GettyImages-2204705625-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Cambridge United FC v Peterborough United FC - Sky Bet League One\" \/>Photo by MI News\/NurPhoto via Getty ImagesKwame Poku was sold QPR project by new manager Julien Stephan<\/p>\n<p>When considering his options ahead of leaving London Road, <a href=\"https:\/\/eflanalysis.com\/transfers\/kwame-poku-stance-revealed-amid-birmingham-city-interest-he-has-one-big-consideration-to-take-into-account\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Poku wanted the guarantee of starting regularly<\/a>, something Birmingham couldn\u2019t promise him. <\/p>\n<p>That is why, after Swansea City, QPR, and an <a href=\"https:\/\/eflanalysis.com\/news\/peterborough-united-agree-deals-with-three-clubs-for-unplayable-kwame-poku-next-move-is-up-to-him\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">unnamed Championship club agreed terms with Poku<\/a>, the fleet-footed Ghanaian was sold by Stephan\u2019s plans for him. <\/p>\n<p>Speaking to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.qpr.co.uk\/news\/2025\/june\/28\/qpr-complete-kwame-poku-signing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">R\u2019s official website<\/a>, the exciting winger said: \u201cWhen I was speaking to him he was talking about where he sees me fitting in and where he thinks I can influence the game.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s what really attracted me. Being 23 turning 24, I\u2019m not quite young anymore, so I want to come in and make my mark from the jump.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Poku is the latest incredible, young talent to make the switch to QPR, joining the likes of Karamoko Dembele and Mbengue in the squad. <\/p>\n<p>Poku explains what is different from his last time in the Championship<\/p>\n<p>The last time Poku played in the Championship was in the 2021\/22 campaign, which resulted in relegation for Peterborough. <\/p>\n<p>Poku was a raw talent back then, who needed to refine his end product, something he\u2019s done during a three-year stint in League One. <\/p>\n<p>Now, he\u2019s determined to carry such form into the second tier, saying: \u201cI think I had some good performances, good on the ball, I just think what separated then from now was the statistical side of it,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cComing into this team where there\u2019s a lot of good attacking players and good all-rounded players as well, I think I\u2019ll create more chances, be at the end of a lot of chances and get more numbers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Championship is a different kettle of fish to the third tier but QPR will be hopeful they\u2019ve made one of the signings of the summer.<\/p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Queens Park Rangers will begin to feel a sense of excitement ahead of the new Championship season.
