Since starting a decade ago, <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/whats-on\/whats-on-news\/how-three-lads-rough-ends-31942087\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Sonic Yootha has cemented itself as a monthly fixture for many.<\/a> The alternative disco prides itself on being a disco for the \u201chomos, heteros, drag shows and don\u2019t knows\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">It is the brainchild of three lads from \u201cthe rough ends\u201d of North Liverpool, Shaun Duggan, Ian Usher and John Aggy. The three created it out of a need to find a place for people like themselves to belong. It began with a short stint in <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/camp-and-furnace\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Camp and Furnace<\/a> before settling in the venue it is renowned for today, 24 Kitchen Street.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Sonic Yootha will be hosting its 10th birthday celebrations this weekend on Saturday, June 28, with the theme of Getting Away With It. In usual fashion, attendees who pay the \u00a310 entry fee will be treated to a diverse blend of<a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/kylie-minogue\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\"> Kylie,<\/a> The Pet Shop Boys, Patti Smith and even, occasionally, the theme tunes to soap operas.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/1751133911_652_0_JS373313971.jpg\" alt=\"John Aggy and Shaun Duggan celebrating 10 years of Sonic Yootha, at 24 Kitchen Street.\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>John Aggy and Shaun Duggan celebrating 10 years of Sonic Yootha, at 24 Kitchen Street.(Image: Andrew Teebay)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">However, among all the celebrations, a rumour began spreading that Sonic Yootha would be coming to an end in line with the milestone anniversary. However, <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">the ECHO<\/a> can confirm this will not be the case.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">When <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">the ECHO <\/a>caught up with the founders to talk about Yootha\u2019s legacy, John, a 59-year-old civil servant living in<a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/toxteth\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\"> Toxteth<\/a>, told the ECHO: &#8220;One thing I love about Liverpool is that when it has a thing to be proud of, it will defend it fiercely and that&#8217;s the same with Sonic Yootha.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">&#8220;We aren&#8217;t going anywhere. We got wasted at one Sonic Yootha and told everyone and it spread like wildfire.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">&#8220;We were bombarded by messages with people begging us not to. We asked ourselves &#8216;why on earth would we end it now? We are busier than we have ever been and there&#8217;s a whole new generation coming through and finding themselves?&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">&#8220;So, now in true Sonic Yootha style, next year we are actually having more nights than ever in a year. We&#8217;e gone from ending to be more active than usual.
