{"id":222359,"date":"2025-06-28T21:55:09","date_gmt":"2025-06-28T21:55:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/222359\/"},"modified":"2025-06-28T21:55:09","modified_gmt":"2025-06-28T21:55:09","slug":"lewis-hamilton-now-as-fast-as-charles-leclerc-at-ferrari-despite-austria-f1-qualifying-slip","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/222359\/","title":{"rendered":"Lewis Hamilton now &#8216;as fast&#8217; as Charles Leclerc at Ferrari despite Austria F1 qualifying slip"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Lewis Hamilton was pleased to find \u201cpositives\u201d in his qualifying performance for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorsportweek.com\/series\/single-seater\/formula-1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Formula 1<\/a>\u2018s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.formula1.com\/en\/racing\/2025\/austria\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Austrian Grand Prix,<\/a> and said he was \u201cas fast\u201d as team-mate Charles Leclerc across the session.<\/p>\n<p>The seven-time World Champion was able to extract some improved performance from his Ferrari SF-25 at the Red Bull Ring, amid the Scuderia\u2019s implementation of a number of upgrades to its floor.<\/p>\n<p>Hamilton and Leclerc showed a positive trajectory for the team, with the Monegasque taking second place on the grid behind pole-sitter Lando Norris, with Hamilton fourth, occupying the second row with Oscar Piastri.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking after qualifying, Hamilton showed happiness in being able to find a set-up that he found a great deal of improvement in, compared to his team-mate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSetup wise, I\u2019m finally getting much closer to where Charles has the car, for example, which I\u2019ve not been able to do all year,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUltimately I was as fast as him. This is as close as I\u2019ve been because he\u2019s very quick at qualifying and, again, he\u2019s just so used to this car. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe hardly ever changes anything, so that\u2019s a positive. So, incremental steps. I do anticipate to continue on this road and eventually switch it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Lewis-Hamilton-Charles-Leclerc-1024x576.webp.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-214034\"  \/>Hamilton said he felt \u201cas fast\u201d as Charles Leclerc, but a small error saw him end up behind his team-mate<\/p>\n<p>Hamilton rues \u2018massive snap\u2019 in final lap that cost him higher place<\/p>\n<p>Despite feeling he was as fast as Leclerc, Hamilton\u2019s quickest lap was nine hundredths of a second off the Monegasque.<\/p>\n<p>He put this down to a moment midway through the lap, that ultimately cost him a place alongside Norris at the front.<\/p>\n<p>However, it didn\u2019t seem to dampen Hamilton\u2019s pleasure in his performance, who will be hopeful that the car can show some decent race pace with a potential podium on the cards.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI had more time in the lap,\u201d he said. \u201cI was nearly three tenths up going into Turn 6, and I had a massive snap going in.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd then I came across the line, point zero six up, so that would have put me second.
