According to the most recent data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, nearly 2 in 5 (38.6%) recent high school graduates<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bls.gov\/opub\/ted\/2024\/61-4-percent-of-recent-high-school-graduates-enrolled-in-college-in-october-2023.htm\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">\u00a0opted out of college<\/a>\u00a0in 2023, up from 33.8% in 2019.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">This shift comes at a good time for high school grads, as companies face labor shortages for many jobs that don\u2019t require a college degree. Baby boomers retiring and a trend to<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/help-wanted-u-s-factories-seek-workers-for-the-nearshoring-boom-ef0209aa?mod=article_inline\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">\u00a0reopen factories<\/a>\u00a0in the United States have both driven demand for young talent. A July 2024 Intelligent report found that 1 in 3 companies have\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.intelligent.com\/1-in-3-companies-eliminated-bachelors-degree-requirements-so-far-this-year\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">already dropped bachelor\u2019s degree requirements<\/a>\u00a0across entry-level, mid-tier, and even senior positions to attract more employees.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The need for skilled workers, regardless of educational attainment, means better pay. Median wages for those with a high school degree are at their highest<a href=\"https:\/\/www.newyorkfed.org\/research\/college-labor-market#--:explore:wages\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">\u00a0since 1990<\/a>, according to the New York Federal Reserve.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">At $40,000 on average, these wages are still $20,000 lower than those of a college grad. Yet nearly<a href=\"https:\/\/www.asa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Launchpad-Jobs.pdf\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">\u00a01 in 5 workers<\/a>\u00a0who opt out of college earn more than employees with bachelor\u2019s degrees. Two million high school grads across the U.S. make six-figure annual salaries\u2014without the financial burden of attending a four-year university. As of 2025, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/educationdata.org\/average-cost-of-college\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">average annual cost<\/a>\u00a0of college is more than $38,200 per student, and the average college graduate has more than\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fool.com\/research\/student-loan-debt-statistics\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">$39,000 in student debt<\/a>. It\u2019s little wonder that, according to a May 2024 survey from Pew Research, 29% of Americans\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/social-trends\/2024\/05\/23\/is-college-worth-it-2\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">think attending college<\/a>\u00a0is not worthwhile.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">However, not every career field pays high school grads equally well, and understanding what the good jobs are is the first step to landing one.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.stacker.com\/wisconsin\/green-bay\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Stacker<\/a>\u00a0ranked the 50 highest-paying jobs that don\u2019t require a college degree in Green Bay using annual compensation data from the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bls.gov\/oes\/tables.htm\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">\u00a0BLS<\/a>. The analysis included jobs that listed a high school diploma, a postsecondary nondegree award, or had no formal education requirements for entry-level positions. Jobs are ranked by their median annual pay as of May 2024, so any jobs without annual compensation figures available were excluded from this analysis.<\/p>\n<p>#40.
