Jake Paul urged supporters to donate to his former opponent Ben Askren after defeating Julio Cesar Chavez Jr on Saturday night.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Former UFC<\/a> star Askren, who was knocked out by Paul in 2021, is currently in hospital with severe pneumonia<\/a> and in need of a life-saving lung transplant.<\/p>\n

Paul, making his first appearance since boxing Mike Tyson<\/a>, cruised to victory against Chavez Jr in Anaheim, California, and has now earned himself a world ranking with two governing bodies at cruiserweight.<\/p>\n

After the bout, Paul named Anthony Joshua<\/a> and Gervonta Davis<\/a> among others as potential future opponents.<\/p>\n

The largely Mexican-dominated crowd continued to boo ‘The Problem Child’ during his post-fight interview, until he touched on an emotional subject.<\/p>\n

“Say a prayer for Ben Askren and for his family,” Paul said.<\/p>\n

“We all need to support him. Everyone should go donate to him.”<\/p>\n

Paul had already commented on Askren’s situation ahead of the fight with Chavez Jr at the open workouts.<\/p>\n

“My prayers go out to him,” he said. <\/p>\n

“I feel sorry for his family, I can\u2019t imagine what they\u2019re going through.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just hope that he can recover because there\u2019s so much more to life besides fighting and careers.<\/p>\n

“I\u2019m wishing him the best and I\u2019m here if they need any support.\u201d<\/p>\n

Askren was first rushed to hospital<\/a> at the start of June with pneumonia.<\/p>\n

The MMA veteran was bed-bound in care but unresponsive, according to his wife, Amy, who has been the one providing updates to fans<\/a> growing concerned with the fighter’s condition.<\/p>\n

The MMA fraternity has pulled together in support of Askren, with UFC President Dana White<\/a> also pleading with fans last week<\/a> to donate to Askren.<\/p>\n

The cost of lung transplantation<\/a>\u00a0in the United States ranges from $300,000 to $400,000, according to the National Institutes of Health.<\/p>\n

This will come as a heavy financial burden for Askren, who retired from MMA in 2019 after losing two of his three fights with the UFC.<\/p>\n

Paul also confirmed after his victory over Chavez Jr that he and his brother, Logan Paul<\/a>, would both donate to Askren to help cover the costs of his operation.<\/p>\n

The 28-year-old had his hand raised after being awarded a unanimous decision win over Chavez Jr, with judges scoring it 97-93, 98-92, and 99-91 in his favour.<\/p>\n

“All the boos are words, and actions speak louder than words, so you can shut the *** up,” he also told those in attendance after the bout.<\/p>\n

“I live for this s**t from your mother f***ers. That was easy work, I only got hit 10 times.<\/p>\n

“I’m him. I beat your boy. Nah, he is a warrior, but so am I. I did great against a former world champion, who has never been stopped, and I dominated him.<\/p>\n

“I\u2019m 100 per cent staying active, I\u2019m fighting everybody.
