The first trailer for Madame Web<\/a> star Dakota Johnson<\/a>‘s new comedy Splitsville is here, and it’s pure chaos.<\/p>\n

The film focuses on a couple called Carey (co-writer Kyle Marvin) and Ashley (Andor<\/a>‘s Adria Arjona) who are driving down a long road, when she announces that she wants a divorce.<\/p>\n

Shaken, Carey runs to meet his friends, fellow couple Paul (director and co-writer Michael Angelo Covino) and Julie (Johnson), and tells them all about it.<\/p>\n

They reveal that they are in an open marriage, and that being able to sleep with other people is the key to their successful relationship. Shortly after, Carey and Julie have sex.<\/p>\n

But when he tells Paul the next day, he’s furious. An over-the-top fight breaks out, and now both marriages are on the line.<\/p>\n

What follows is a collection of shots showing a car flipping over, strange naked men playing guitar, more fights, and lots of experimenting with various odd-looking fellows. Succession’s Nicholas Braun even pops up to encourage a strained group bonding session.<\/p>\n

When Splitsville premiered at the Cannes Film Festival<\/a> last month, it received a 72% positive Rotten Tomatoes<\/a> score from 18 reviews.<\/p>\n

Deadline<\/a>‘s review was particularly glowing, praising Marvin and Covino for their “very smart and witty screenplay” and for being “superb comic actors”, while also calling the fight sequence “one for the ages, beautifully choreographed and an instant classic.”<\/p>\n

The Hollywood Reporter<\/a> also praised the film as a “different” comedy, and noted Johnson and Arjona’s “comedy chops”.<\/p>\n

Splitsville will be released in select theatres on 22 August in the United States, with a wider release on 5 September. A UK release date is not currently known.<\/strong><\/p>\n
