A suitcase is nearby.\" height=\"636\" width=\"960\" data-credit=\"Joe Pepler\/PinPep\" data-img=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/free-editorial-use-comedian-joe-987354939.jpg\" data-caption=\"Brits aren't fans of fellow passengers tucking into smelly snacks on the tracks.\"   loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/free-editorial-use-comedian-joe-987354939.jpg\" role=\"img\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>2<\/p>\n<p>Brits aren&#8217;t fans of fellow passengers tucking into smelly snacks on the tracks.Credit: Joe Pepler\/PinPep<\/p>\n<p>Similarly, seats being taken up with luggage or being used as a footrest are familiar annoyances.<\/p>\n<p>While the top three most irritating rail dislikes are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/travel\/34454661\/day-trip-extreme-holiday-europe-spain\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">costly tickets<\/a> (35 per cent), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/news\/32308290\/network-rail-delays-junction-point-issues\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">delays<\/a> (34 per cent) and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thescottishsun.co.uk\/news\/3831074\/scotrail-shocking-overcrowding-trains-scotland\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">overcrowding<\/a> (24 per cent).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Almost half (43 per cent) are already bracing for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/news\/34459859\/major-uk-train-station-travel-weekend-easter-chaos\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">rail transport this Easter<\/a> to be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/news\/34132144\/swans-disruption-uk-train-services\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">disrupted<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Marc Pell, managing director at temporary car insurance provider Tempcover, which commissioned the research, said: \u201cThe research highlights the very real frustrations many endure with UK train travel.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The quality of a journey significantly impacts overall enjoyment, and unreliable services take away from people\u2019s precious time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOver a four-day Easter holiday, no-one wants their plans derailed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The research went on to find two in 10 experience delays or cancellations on services most times they travel by train &#8211; with 11 per cent having experienced a hold-up of more than four hours.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>And the average time passengers have had to wait on a rail replacement bus service is 41 minutes, while 20 per cent have done so for an hour or more.<\/p>\n<p>The average price of tickets costs almost \u00a3110 &#8211; with 80 per cent citing train ticket prices as expensive.<\/p>\n<p>To make things even worse, 44 per cent have witnessed someone playing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.ie\/news\/13214418\/shocking-moment-shirtless-man-charges-neighbour-shotgun\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">loud music<\/a> in their carriage, and 42 per cent have come across a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/travel\/32045893\/flight-attendant-phrase-rude-passengers\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">rude passenger<\/a> during their travels.<\/p>\n<p>Dad and son fatally struck by Amtrak train while desperately trying to save suicidal family member who jumped on track<\/p>\n<p>But staff are the silver lining, with 49 per cent saying they are helpful, according to the OnePoll stats.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, 51 per cent would rather <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/news\/33241259\/train-chaos-line-closed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">drive<\/a> than catch a train &#8211; as you can get straight to your destination (49 per cent), have your own space (38 per cent) and it\u2019s seen as more reliable (35 per cent).<\/p>\n<p>Marc Pell, of Tempcover, added: \u201cThis Easter, car sharing is another way to visit friends and family.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is where temporary car insurance can really help.
