The Duke of Sussex supposedly wants to invite his estranged family to the sporting event scheduled in Birmingham. While the reunion could give Harry a chance to mend his relationship with his father, King Charles, and the rest of the royal family members, a royal commentator thinks his brother, Prince William, might not entertain the invitation.

According to the Scottish Daily Express, royal commentator Kinsey Schofield told Sky News that Charles may consider attending the games due to his ‘soft spot’ for his younger son, whom he once used to call ‘darling boy.’ However, the sources at the palace believe otherwise, calling the Duke’s invite a ‘PR strategy.’

Schofield opined, “My understanding is that Palace sources feel the same way that I have felt…gestures are leaked to the press before they’re actually made, so how is this a genuine reconciliation attempt and not a PR strategy?” Schofield added, “I think the King might actually show up because I think he’s got a soft spot for Prince Harry.” The expert further claimed that Prince William would not be a part of the event, saying, “The King is sick, I hope he does show up for Prince Harry, but I don’t believe we’ll see Prince William there.”

According to the Daily Mail, a source previously claimed that Harry is hopeful his family will attend the Invictus Games and support the wounded veterans in their performance. The source said, “Invictus hopes the royal family will come along to support the wounded veterans taking part. Harry is hopeful his father will set aside their differences to attend the Invictus Games and support veterans.” The insider added, “The royals have always been hugely supportive of Invictus and proud of what Harry has achieved in that arena. This is one olive branch from him, which might be reciprocated.” The invitations are expected to be sent out by Summer, and nobody, including the royal family, has received them yet. However, the rumored reconciliation may face a hurdle as the games’ dates collide with Queen Camilla’s birthday.

Harry has remained estranged from his family after he and his wife, Meghan Markle, stepped down as working royals in 2020. The rift deepened following the couple’s explosive interviews, including the conversation with Oprah Winfrey, their bombshell Netflix documentary, and the tell-all memoir Spare. As a result, the prince is no longer on speaking terms with his father.

During his interview with the BBC, he even admitted to Charles not picking up his calls. Nevertheless, after years of estrangement, the father-of-two expressed his desire to reconcile with his family, citing his father’s health as the reason. He said, “There is no point in continuing to fight anymore, life is precious. I don’t know how much longer my father has – he won’t speak to me because of this security stuff, but it would be nice to reconcile.”

Prince Harry is reportedly planning to initiate reconciliation with his family through the Invictus Games 2027.
