The 47-year-old still watched the game from afar, however.

This season, there has been a lot of talk about Alexander Isak’s future at Newcastle, with claims that the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool are interested in the 25-year-old.

The belief is that Isak wants Champions League football before committing his future to Newcastle; their good form and league position mean that it may not be far away.

Ian Wright praised Isak’s form at Newcastle this season, admitting he is a nightmare for any team to defend against.

Now, the Arsenal legend has made a big admission on what he thinks about Isak’s future.

Photo by Serena Taylor/Newcastle United via Getty ImagesIan Wright on Alexander Isak’s Newcastle United future

Isak to Liverpool will be the story of the summer, that is according to David Ornstein, who believes the Swede will have a lot of interest from the Premier League leaders at the end of the season.

That comes after Arsenal were desperate to sign Isak in January, but were put off by his hefty price tag.

This summer, Isak will cost over £120m, a fee that would break the British transfer record and give Newcastle a huge boost in the transfer market. However, Newcastle are adamant Isak will not leave this summer and are eager to build a team around him.

Speaking on Premier League show Kelly and Wrighty, the latter talked about Newcastle’s chances of qualifying for the Champions League and Isak’s future. Despite his former club being linked with him, Wright backed Newcastle to keep hold of Isak this summer.

“I think it’s vital that they do get themselves in the Champions League,” he said. #

“Winning that trophy has given them the confidence to go forward.

“I look at Newcastle as a place now where people will want to go. There was a period where people were saying, ‘What’s happening with Eddie, is he gonna leave?’.

“I think it’s quite disrespectful people saying about Isak, who’s going to buy Isak. I think they can probably keep Isak and bring the quality in like we’ve seen with Tonali.

“I like the way it’s switched around with Eddie, because I’m sure when Newcastle got taken over, people thought there was going to be a lot of money spent. It hasn’t worked like that, and he’s built a really good team. Them winning that trophy and playing like they’re playing, I really hope they do make it.”

Isak has failed to find the net in his last two games but bagged a beautiful assist for Sandro Tonali’s strike against Man United.

Newcastle United will sign a striker no matter what happens to Alexander Isak

Newcastle fans want Isak to stay on Tyneside long-term thanks to his incredible form since signing for the club in 2022.

There is no doubt that Isak is the best striker the club has had since Alan Shearer retired, so it is important that they can keep him at Newcastle.

No matter what happens to Isak this summer, Newcastle will sign a striker. William Osula is a long-term project, while Callum Wilson is set to leave the club this summer with his contract expiring.

Newcastle are expected to be busy this summer with it being confirmed they will be in Europe next season, so a new striker needs to come in to rotate for Isak.

Liam Delap is linked with Newcastle, but the feeling is that he is more likely to join one of Chelsea or Man United, who can give him consistent game time.

Elsewhere, Newcastle want Matheus Cunha, who will cost the club £62.5m this summer. The Brazilian has made it clear that he is ready to take the next step in his career and wants to fight for titles every year.

Newcastle United hold the aces in the race for Champions League football this season.
