An employee review metric for measuring AI use is <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/microsoft-plans-potential-rethink-performance-reviews-pivot-satya-nadella-2025-3\" target=\"_blank\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/microsoft-plans-potential-rethink-performance-reviews-pivot-satya-nadella-2025-3\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" rel=\"noopener\">reportedly under consideration according to Business Insider<\/a> as well.<\/p>\n<p>Liuson&#8217;s memo made her expectations here clear: &#8220;AI is now a fundamental part of how we work. Just like collaboration, data-driven thinking, and effective communication, using AI is no longer optional\u2014it&#8217;s core to every role and every level.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>To be fair, there&#8217;s some logic to this decision\u2014the people developing Microsoft&#8217;s AI tools and services should probably be using them to get a better idea of the user experience.<\/p>\n<p>Related articles<\/p>\n<p>At the same time, it&#8217;s hard not to read this as Microsoft resorting to the stick of employee reviews to get them to actually use these tools, which have struggled to gain adoption with everyday users and faced backlash over <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/software\/windows\/it-looks-like-you-wont-be-able-to-uninstall-recall-the-controversial-ai-assisted-windows-11-screen-capping-feature-and-i-cant-say-im-too-surprised\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/software\/windows\/it-looks-like-you-wont-be-able-to-uninstall-recall-the-controversial-ai-assisted-windows-11-screen-capping-feature-and-i-cant-say-im-too-surprised\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Copilot&#8217;s controversial Recall feature,<\/a> as well as the usual AI inaccuracies and &#8220;hallucinations.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Recall uses AI to &#8220;remember&#8221; your activity on your computer by taking screenshots every few seconds so you can use Copilot to find websites or files you previously viewed. Microsoft <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/software\/operating-systems\/microsoft-makes-recall-an-optional-feature-on-copilot-pcs-after-it-heard-a-clear-signal-from-the-public\/\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/software\/operating-systems\/microsoft-makes-recall-an-optional-feature-on-copilot-pcs-after-it-heard-a-clear-signal-from-the-public\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">had to backpedal<\/a> on the feature when it was first announced due to an uproar over security concerns.<\/p>\n<p>While the company has attempted to address those concerns leading up to <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/gaming-industry\/microsoft-is-finally-rolling-out-its-controversial-recall-feature-that-screenshots-everything-you-do-again-but-only-for-select-users\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/gaming-industry\/microsoft-is-finally-rolling-out-its-controversial-recall-feature-that-screenshots-everything-you-do-again-but-only-for-select-users\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Recall&#8217;s long-delayed beta release<\/a>, the feature is still tarred with these associations, and I find it hard to trust Microsoft on its claims about Copilot&#8217;s offline, airtight security.<\/p>\n<p>Even for people who already use AI on a regular basis, Copilot probably isn&#8217;t their first choice.
