some of last standing tower blocks in the Gorbals &#8211; were brought down using explosives on Sunday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>13:44, 29 Jun 2025Updated 16:15, 29 Jun 2025<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Two <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailyrecord.co.uk\/all-about\/glasgow\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Glasgow<\/a> tower blocks were blown down in a dramatic double demolition today.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The pair of 226ft buildings &#8211; some of the last <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailyrecord.co.uk\/all-about\/housing\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">standing tower blocks<\/a> in the Gorbals &#8211; were brought down using explosives at around 1pm on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Large exclusion zones were in place as crowds gathered to watch the detonation &#8211; with threw up huge clouds of dust and debris.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The tower blocks, Numbers 305 and 341 Caledonia Road, were built in 1965 amid a move to regenerate the area which was once known for its overcrowded, dilapidated Victorian tenements.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Plans to demolish the blocks were announced two years ago with the cost running to \u00a36.5million.<\/p>\n<p>Content cannot be displayed without consent<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Housing chiefs say the 23-storey blocks were razed to make way for <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailyrecord.co.uk\/all-about\/house-building\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">150 new homes <\/a>after concerns were raised about the safety of the materials used.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">New Gorbals Housing Association said: &#8220;Over the last few months, the contractor for the blow-down has been making progress preparing the buildings for demolition.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">&#8220;This includes stripping the buildings, removing the concierge building and working with the association to save tonnes of material from landfill.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/0_Screenshot-2025-06-29-at-135934JPG.jpg\" alt=\"Gorbals Tower block demolition\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>Gorbals Tower block demolition(Image: Jamie Williamson)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">After World War Two, the Gorbals area became known as one of Europe&#8217;s worst slums.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The towers were built in 1971 between St Francis&#8217;
