Chelsea<\/a> have agreed a deal worth a total of \u00a360 million ($82m) for Brighton<\/a> striker Jo\u00e3o Pedro<\/a>, sources have told ESPN.<\/p>\n

The 23-year-old had attracted interest from Newcastle<\/a> but preferred a move to Stamford Bridge and talks with Chelsea developed quickly this week.<\/p>\n

Sources have told ESPN that Pedro has agreed terms on a seven-year contract in a deal that includes a \u00a355m initial fee with \u00a35m in potential add-ons.<\/p>\n

The deal also includes a clause for Brighton to receive a percentage of any future transfer fee.<\/p>\n

Pedro will undergo a medical in the next couple of days with the intention of being registered in time to take part in Chelsea’s Club World Cup campaign.<\/p>\n

FIFA rules dictate that up to two players can be added before Thursday’s deadline. Chelsea face a quarterfinal tie against Palmeiras in Philadelphia on Friday.<\/p>\n

The Brazil<\/a> forward can be included but another imminent new signing, Jamie Gittens<\/a>, cannot because he already played for Borussia Dortmund<\/a> in the group stage and is cup-tied.<\/p>\n

Pedro and Gittens would join Liam Delap<\/a> — who signed earlier this month for \u00a330m from Ipswich Town — in reshaping Chelsea’s forward line and increase the likelihood Christopher Nkunku<\/a> will leave the club.<\/p>\n
