Each week Bristol City Council receives dozens of planning applications seeking permission for a whole range of developments.

Over the past seven days, those applications also included a new roof on a supermarket and four flats above a shop. Here’s this week’s round-up of notable planning applications submitted to the council.

Every week dozens are validated by the local authority and we have selected some of the more interesting proposals. All planning applications submitted to the council have to be validated and are available for inspection by the public. Anyone is also allowed to submit comments about the applications — whether in support or objection.

The majority of applications are decided by planning officers at the council under delegated powers. However, some will go before elected councillors who sit on planning committees. No dates have been set for when the planning applications below will be determined. They can be viewed by going to the planning portal on Bristol City Council’s website.

Garages demolished and five homes built

Garages behind a row of terraced houses in Withywood have been knocked down and five new three-bedroom houses could be built in their place. The garages were located behind a terrace on Molesworth Drive. The houses would be built by the council and all would be classed as affordable. There would be one parking space for each of the houses.

The site is currently fenced off, and backs onto a play area used by the Venturers’ Academy high school. The council already consulted local residents about its plans, who broadly supported the scheme but raised concerns about the impact on parking, the security of their back gardens, and fears of worsening flood risk.

The site used to be home to garages(Image: Bristol City Council )

New roof on a supermarket

A new roof could be installed on an Aldi supermarket. The shop is located on Greystoke Avenue in Southmead. Existing tiles would be taken off and new ones put on instead. Similar changes are being rolled out to Aldi supermarkets across the country, making them more energy efficient.

In planning documents, the applicants said: “A full roof replacement is being completed due to the current roof structure reaching the end of its useful life. In addition, the roof replacement provides an opportunity to improve the operational and energy performance of the building.”

Flats above a shop

The first floor above a shop in Eastville could be converted into four flats. The SSA Wholesale Cash and Carry is located on Fishponds Road. The first floor is currently used for storage to service the shop below. However the owners have another storage nearby, which is “better served by delivery vehicles”.

Upgrading lamp posts near Temple Meads to LEDs

Lamp posts near Temple Meads train station could soon be upgraded to LEDs, a more energy efficient sort of lightbulb. New lights would also be installed on Valentine Bridge, the bendy footbridge running from Wetherspoons to Avon Street north of the railway station. The site affected is across Temple Quay, the area near the station home to a public square and offices.

This week’s list of notable planning applications made to the city councilThe houses planned for Molesworth Drive(Image: Bristol…

[8818
381,3893,748,12894,393,12716,4884,12717,10963,16,15,20076
0":"post-225907","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-bristol","8":"tag-bristol","9":"tag-bristol-city-council","10":"tag-britain","11":"tag-eastville","12":"tag-england","13":"tag-fishponds","14":"tag-great-britain","15":"tag-planning","16":"tag-southmead","17":"tag-uk","18":"tag-united-kingdom","19":"tag-withywood
["GET
