The rumour has caught the attention of the Ibrox hero after the England cap left Everton\"AllyAlly McCoist<\/p>\n

Worried Ally McCoist reckons Dominic Calvert-Lewin would be a hit if he made the move to Celtic<\/a> – despite major fitness concerns over the free agent.<\/p>\n

The Rangers<\/a> hero admits he wouldn’t want to see the 11-time England cap do TOO well in Glasgow against his beloved Light Blues.<\/p>\n

The 28-year-old’s Everton <\/a>contract has now expired bringing his nine-year long stint with The Toffees to an end.<\/p>\n

The striker 71 goals in 273 games for the club after his \u00a31.5m move from Sheffield United – but has been hampered by a series of injury problems in recent years.<\/p>\n

He enjoyed his peak run of form in an Everton shirt in the 2020\/21 Premier League season – netting 33 goals – but since that campaign fitness issues have plagued the frontman.<\/p>\n

Last season only managed three goals in 26 appearance – and was sidelined between January and May due to another injury.<\/p>\n

But speaking to the talkSPORT Breakfast Show, McCoist<\/a> backed Brendan Rodgers to get the best out of the struggling striker after bringing up the rumour on air.<\/p>\n

He said: “I tell you right now, it’s fitness – it’s fitness for me. You get him on the pitch and he would absolutely do well for Celtic, there is no doubt about it.<\/p>\n

“Pacy, good in the air, score you goals – just a question mark over fitness, that’s all I’ve got.”<\/p>\n

Host Jeff Stelling added: “I think it’s an absolute no-brainer. No-brainer. They are getting him on a free transfer, OK the wages will be big, but we know he can play.<\/p>\n

“And I think it’s a good move for him. He will score goals there, regain his confidence, play European football – and I am not being disrespectful to Celtic because it’s a massive club – but in a couple of years time, get back in the Premier League.”<\/p>\n

McCoist rounded off with a tongue-in-cheek caveat: “I just want to see him fit, and I just want to see him play, not too well if he goes to Celtic I may add.”<\/p>\n

Before leaving Everton, Calvert-Lewin admitted it had been a “difficult decision” to leave Merseyside.<\/p>\n

He posted to Instagram: “After nine remarkable years I’ve made the incredibly difficult decision – together with my family – to begin a new chapter in my career.<\/p>\n

“This isn’t something I chose lightly. Everton has been my home since I was 19 years old. It’s the place that saw potential in me, challenged me to grow and shaped me both as a footballer and as a man.<\/p>\n
