{"id":226823,"date":"2025-06-30T14:28:14","date_gmt":"2025-06-30T14:28:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/226823\/"},"modified":"2025-06-30T14:28:14","modified_gmt":"2025-06-30T14:28:14","slug":"harrods-luxe-upgrade-plans-include-uks-first-curved-escalators","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/226823\/","title":{"rendered":"Harrods&#8217; luxe upgrade plans include UK&#8217;s first curved escalators"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"article-content col-md-8 offset-md-1\">\n                                Britain\u2019s first curved escalators are coming to luxury retailer <a class=\"fnwAddLinks\" href=\"https:\/\/uk.fashionnetwork.com\/tags-harrods\" title=\"Harrods\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Harrods<\/a> as part of a multimillion-pound renovation.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"news-image\" style=\"width:100%;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/9939.jpg\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"col-md-8 offset-md-1 article-content--texte\">The famous Knightsbridge department store plans to introduce the technology in its lower-ground floors, reports The Telegraph newspaper which has seen planning documents to on bring the \u201cinnovation to the UK\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Echoing \u201cthe sweeping staircases of Harrods\u2019 history\u201d the aim is to create a \u201cgrand and luxurious retail experience\u201d emulating its original Edwardian sales rooms.<\/p>\n<p class=\"col-md-8 offset-md-1 article-content--texte\">The proposal includes fluted marble columns, inspired by the draped fabric of Lady Britannia on the store\u2019s Brompton Road facade while the current ceiling will be replaced with a 1920s replica.<\/p>\n<p>The overhaul will also include a deepening of the lower-ground and sub-basement levels to create a double-height hall, merging its fine watches and fine jewellery departments.<\/p>\n<p>As well as the curved escalator, each brand based in Harrods\u2019 basement would also get its own eight-10-person lift for privacy and security, \u201chelping extremely high-net worth customers feel comfortable\u201d, the report says.<\/p>\n<p>Harrods said in planning documents it needed to overhaul its store to \u201cremain relevant in an increasingly competitive luxury market\u201d and set London \u201con the map for hard luxury\u201d goods.<\/p>\n<p>Harrods has so far declined to comment.\n                            <\/p>\n<p>\n                                Copyright \u00a9 2025 FashionNetwork.com All rights reserved.\n                            <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Britain\u2019s first curved escalators are coming to luxury retailer Harrods as part of a multimillion-pound renovation.
